Doyline Doubles Up On Titles At Red River Chevy Bisteneau Classic - Under The Radar - NW Louisiana

The Doyline Panthers and Lady Panthers each were greedy and kept the trophies of their own tournament on Saturday night at Doyline High School.  The Doyline Panthers got by the Red River Bulldogs in a physical and emotional game with a 73-62 win.   The Lady Panthers had a hot first quarter and never looked back as they overtook the Lakeside Lady Warriors 59-19.   The Lakeside Warrior won the nailbiter in the consolation finals against the Haynseville Golden Tornados with 44-41.  The surprise team of the tournament was the Ringgold Lady Redskins won two on Saturday to win the consolation bracket with a 42-28 win over North Webster Lady Knights.  It’s been a good week to be a Lady Redskin as they’ve won 3 of 4 games of this week.   The Lady Redskins got their first win since 2017 on Tuesday this week.

RINGGOLD LADY REDSKINS 42, NORTH WEBSTER LADY KNIGHTS 28

The Lady Redskins took home third place with a 42-28 win in the consolation finals on Saturday afternoon. 

They reached the finals by defeating the North Desoto Lady Griffins 46-39 early on Saturday.  L. Adams led the Lady Redskins with 16 points against the Griffins.  H. Cox contributed 12.  M. Brown bucketed 10.   The Griffins were led by D. Thomas for 13 and M. Garret for 10.

L. James netted 11 for the win over the Lady Knights.   L. Adams reached double digits again with 10 points as the Lady Redskins secured third place

LAKESIDE WARRIORS 44, HAYNESVILLE TORNADOS 41

The Lakeside Warrior had to win two on Saturday as they took home third place in the Bisteneau Classic. The Warrior had early in the morning defeated the Ringgold Redskins with 64-54 win.  In that matchup, Lamar McKinsey was lead scorer for the Warrior with 15 points.   Orlando Robinson was right behind with 14.  Brody Crumpton reached 10 points.  For the Redskins, T. Savage led with 16 points.   J’Tiree Trent bucketed 14.  Tyler Cook rounded out with 12 points.

Lakeside and Haynesville head into the final quarter tied at 33.  Haynesville struck first with a basket by Zacheus McDaniel.  A drive to the basket by Brown for Lakeside drew the foul.  Haynesville struggled with their shot to fall and Lakeside continued to drive and draw the fouls.  Lakeside went on a 6-0 run and led 40-35 with a little under four minutes remaining.  Haynesville had some costly turnovers and the threes would not fall.  Luckily, Lakeside couldn’t get control of the ball.  Haynesville’s Alford scored and closed the gap to one point.  Lakeside went to the line on another Tors foul and Orlando Robinson pocketed the free throws. Haynesville’s Jackson popped the net and brought the Tors within one at 42-41.  French Marlin committed his fifth foul and sent to the bench.  Lakeside’s Sanders nailed the crucial free throws.  McDaniels desperation three clanged off the rim and Crumpton rebounded.  A steal McDaniels gave the Tors one last chance.  Alford caught the ball heavily defended and stepped out of bounds.   K. Goodwin grabbed one more steal for Haynesville on the intended pass and a number of timeouts were called.  With one second left, Haynesville missed the pass and went out of bounds giving the Warriors the win.

Lamar McKinsey was the Lakeside Warriors leading scorer with 18 points. 

Xarius Hardwell led Haynesville with 14 points.  Zacheus McDaniel chipped in 10.

DOYLINE LADY PANTHERS 59, LAKESIDE LADY WARRIORS 19

The Doyline Lady Panthers started out fast as they opened up a 21-5 first quarter lead and never let up.  The Lady Panthers Unnika Miller bucketed seven points in the opening quarter.   Doyline went on a 12-2 run in the second to widen their lead to 31-8.   Lakeside’s first field goal finally fell three minutes into the quarter.  They would not score another until the closing seconds of the first half.  Doyline commanded the lead at 37-11 in the first half.  Keily Sumlin and Miller continued to drive the middle and increased their lead to 49-17 at the end of three.  Doyline cruised to the win with a 59-19 win

Doyline leading scorer was Unnika Miller with 15 points.  Emori Leonard picked up the double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds.  Keily Sumlin drives paid off as she bucketed 11 for the win.

DOYLINE PANTHERS 73, RED RIVER BULLDOGS 62

The fast, physical games of both teams erupted into an emotional battle for the title on Saturday night.  Red River started fast in the game as Jaylen McDonald scored followed by a three from Brewer for the Bulldogs and Doyline quickly found themselves down 7-0.  Jamaria Clark scored to end the run Red River.   Back to back threes by Clark and Jordan Fuller allowed the Panthers to catch up at 10 with three minutes remaining in the opening quarter.  The three point onslaught by Red River continued with a second three pointer by Bradley gave the Bulldogs the slight 15-12 lead at the end of the second quarter.   The two teams traded shots into the second quarter until chaos erupted over some intense playing turned into a techinal foul melee that stopped the game for a good five minutes.  The first occurred after a foul of Clark and both teams stopping play.  A second technical foul happened to the Panther less than a minute later.  The free throw found Doyline down by seven at 28-21.  Decari Markay scored three for four from the line and a field goal to bring the Panthers back to only being down 31-26 heading into halftime.  The intensity for the Panther must have fueld them as they closed within one with points from J. Markay and a three from Clark.  Red River called a quick timeout to regroup.  Brewer struck again with a three.  J. Markay countered with his own three.  Doyline finally overtook the Bulldogs on J. Markay basket.   A foul shot by Red River tied it up once again.   Doyline was already in the double bonus in the third quarter.   Three out of four free throws followed by a basket from Smith and Doyline was getting a comfortable lead.   Red River then lost C. Johnston with three minutes remaining in the third.  J. Markay buried another three and the Bulldogs called time out to stop the bleeding.  Foul after foul and saw the Panthers go to the line.  Emotions running high for the Bulldogs as T. Williams was called for a foul and a reaction knee jerked a technical foul.   Doyline took advantage scoring all four free throws by Clark.  Doyline had built up an eight point lead off of 10 of 12 shots from the free throw line in the third.  Doyline carried a 54-46 lead into the final frame.  Fouls continued to hamper the Bulldogs sending Doyline to the free throw line time after time.  Doyline biggest lead was 12 points at 61-49.  The Panthers went cold for the next two minutes.  Red River went on a 7-2 run and closed within 63-57.   Red River trying to stop the Panthers only sent them to the line as Doyline made 7 out of 8 final free throws to finish with the 73-62 win. 

Jamaria “Juicy” Clark shot an amazing 17 for 18 from the free throw line on his way to 30 points. J Markay strong 10 point third quarter contributed to his 17 points.  Decari Markay netted 12 points.

Taylor Williams was top scorer for the Bulldogs at 15 points.  Jaylen McDonald scrapped together 14 for Red River.
