Arcadia Tournament Shows Preview Of District 1-A Clashes - Under The Radar - NW Louisiana

The Arcadia Tournament gave a good look for the upcoming gritty District 1-A matchups. Friday night in Arcadia featured the Lincoln Prep Panthers taking a 58-45 over the Plain Dealing Lions. Also, the Haynesville Lady Tors edged out the Lincoln Prep Lady Panthers 37-31. The Gibsland-Coleman Lady Bulldogs snapped back with a win as they sneaked by the Arcadia Lady Hornets 36-31. Lincoln Prep Panthers rounded out the night with a 73-61 win over the Gibsland-Coleman Bulldogs.

GIBSLAND-COLEMAN LADY BULLDOGS 36, ARCADIA LADY HORNETS 31

The Lady Hornets took a slim one-point lead heading into the final quarter at 25-24. D. Hardy for the Lady Bulldogs drove the lane to draw the foul and after a successful free throw, the Lady Bulldogs had recaptured the lead. Arcadia came back with some clutch free throws by Mykell Harris to catch up to the Lady Bulldogs at 28-28 with a little over two minutes remaining. Haulcy’s 3-pointer followed by Ke’Honesty Williams basket stretched the lead back to five points and gave the Lady Bulldogs the win. 

Ke’Honesty Williams led the Lady Bulldogs with 12 points.

Mykell Harris impressive 11 of 15 from the free-throw line bucketed 16 points for the Lady Hornets. Kayla Currie netted 11 points.

HAYNESVILLE LADY TORS 37, LINCOLN PREP LADY PANTHERS 31

Marrissa Tell made her statement in the first quarter as she scored eight points and picked up four rebounds along with three steals and two blocks. The Lady Panthers struggled to score as their first field goal fell with 24 seconds remaining. Haynesville took a 12-3 lead after the first quarter. The second quarter was a different story for Lincoln Prepp as Anya Rhone scored the only points in the first quarter continued in the second as she pocketed eight points for an 8-0 run and closed the gap to two. Tell continued to be the offensive catalyst for the Lady Tors as scored five straight points as Haynesville took back their commanding lead to 22-13 at halftime. Haynesville opened up the third quarter hot as they went on a 6-0 run to widen the lead to 16 points. The Lady Panther’s defensive attack by T. Heard with two steals turned into another run to close in on the Lady Tors once again. Lincoln Prep had closed into 31-20 by the end of the third quarter. The surge continued in the fourth but not enough as Haynesville took the 37-31 win.

Marrisa Tell recorded another double-double as she scored 19 points and 13 rebounds for Haynesville.

Anya Rhone led the Lady Panther with 18 points.

ARCADIA HORNETS 58, PLAIN DEALING LIONS 45

Demarrion Richardson had a strong first quarter for Arcadia as he swished two 3-pointers for eight points in the first quarter. This wasn’t enough to separate the two teams as they closed out Arcadia up 17-13 heading into the second quarter. The two continued to trade shots in the second quarter as Arcadia could only extend their lead by two points going into halftime. A defensive attack by the Hornets late in the third quarter saw them finally get the upper hand. Three steals by Arcadia attributed to a late 7-0 run and widened the gap to 42-31 at the end of the third quarter. The Hornets maintained the momentum heading into the final quarter and held on for the 58-45 win.

Tyler Jefferson behind a strong 11 point second half finished with 17 points for Arcadia. Demarrion Richards and Qua Crane each netted 11 points.

Darrien Perry led the Lions with 13 points. Ladarius O’Neal chipped in 10 points.

LINCOLN PREP PANTHERS 73, GIBSLAND-COLEMAN BULLDOGS 61

This was leading up to being a gritty matchup but it started as a technical foul was called in the first 8 seconds of the matchup. The Panthers were plagued with a string of turnovers and Gibsland-Coleman took advantage with a 9-0 run to take the 13-6 lead. Baskets by Fredrick Payne and Kecharian Mason in a 7-0 run allowed the Panthers to catch the Bulldogs at 13. The Bulldogs followed with a couple of free throws. Fredrick Payne fired a three to give the Panthers the lead and held on for a slim 17-15 lead. Fredrick Payne onslaught of three 3-pointers in the second quarter along widened the lead to 13 points for the Panthers as they took a 47-34 lead into halftime. Chanse Robinson took over where Fredrick Payne left off as he went on a seven-point scoring drive and gave Lincoln Prep its largest lead at 15. Lincoln Prep cruised into the final quarter with a 60-49 lead. The scrappy bench for the Bulldogs tried to make it game at the end, but the Panthers had control as they closed out with a 73-61 win.

Fredrick Payne finished with five 3-pointers and 28 points for Lincoln Prep. Demetri Payne contributed 12. Chanse Robinson’s strong third-quarter performance and finished with 11 points. Kecharian Mason chipped in 10.

Marcus Durham scored 22 points for Gibsland-Coleman.

The Arcadia Tournament wraps up tonight with four matchups. Gibsland-Coleman Bulldogs will kick it off with a matchup against New Living Word Lions at 4:30. Arcadia Lady Hornets will match up with the Haynesville Lady Tors at 5:45. Gibsland-Coleman Lady Bulldogs will face the Lincoln Prep Lady Panthers at 6:30. Arcadia Hornets will close out against Lincoln Prep Panthers.
