Two local teams met up for the King’s Highway clash between Centenary and LSUS on Veteran’s day last week. The Pilots took the 86-69 win over the Gents. Jeff Boyd pulled off the double-double with 24 points and 10 rebounds. Akeem White and Royce Hunter each finished with 19 in the cross-town win. Seth Thomas was the top scorer for Centenary with 19 points. Jarrell Taylor also had double digits with 15 points. LSUS also took a win earlier in the week on Monday with a 115-72 win over Arlington Baptist Patriots. The Pilots had six players score in double digits. Royce Hunter led the Pilots with 20 points. Akeem White added 18. Kelvin Henry, Jr. netted 14. Quentin Jones scored 13. Lony Francis and Leondre Washington both bucketed 11. Kevin Norman contributed 10 points. The Pilots are currently ranked No. 20 in the NAIA Coaches Poll and sit with a 2-2 record.
Arlington Baptist got a double dose of Shreveport teams as they had also faced Centenary earlier in the week. The Gents opened their season with a 87-77 win over the Patriots. Leesville’s Jarrell Taylor topped the Gents with 17 points. Junior Jalen Behr from Athens, GA scored 12 first-half points. Braeden Board scored 17 points. The Gents are currently 1-1 as of last week.
Bossier’s BPCC Cavaliers had an emotional week last week as the community of Doyline and BPCC honored their former player Decari Markray who had a fatal car wreck a few weeks earlier. The Cavaliers sponsored a maroon-out game in honor of Markray. The Cavaliers have dedicated their season to the #13 Cavalier. The Cavalier crowd celebrated an 87-58 win over Baton Rouge Community College Bears. Derrick Hamilton and Adrian Walker both finished with 18 points. Kendrick Delahoussey and Erick McKnight each had 11 points. The second matchup of the season with LSU-Eunice was closer than the first but still fell short 69-59. Walker led the Cavs again with 20 points. Delahoussaye added another 15. Hamilton put in another double-digit performance with 12. BPCC currently has a 1-2 record.
The Southern-Shreveport Jags picked up their first win of the season last week they defeated Copiah-Lincoln 96-92 on Veteran’s day. The Jags had fallen earlier in the week to Panola College 81-80.
