The track season kept rolling on as some local teams made their debut into the track season.  The Castor Invitational brought forward a number of teams like Doyline, Castor, Ringgold, Saline, Arcadia, and some other teams.  Also the Castor Invitational features the Outstanding Female Competitors from Class B and C from last year.  Izayla Harris from Doyline swept eight first place  medals from two meets over Thursday at Castor and Friday at Lakeside.  At Lakeside she was the only Panther to compete.  Samora Sampson from Gibsland-Coleman, the co-Outstanding Female Athlete from Class C the previous year, competed in Castor.   

Haynesville continued to be the kings and queens of the relay game taking the top time of the week in 6 of the 8 possible relays.

Mansfield Wolverines Invitational (March 15)

Mansfield and Logansport showed out on the midweek meet.  

Jayden Youngblood made top notch performances again with two first place performances.  Youngblood dominated the hurdles winning the 110 hurdles (14.60) and 300 hurdles (39.56).  Nick Davis gave the Wolverines another gold medal performance in the 200 meter run (22.12).  All three performances were enough for the athletes to make the Gold Team.  

On the girls’ side, Katilynn McDaniel won the discus (104-3) and also claimed a Gold Team slot for discus.  La’TyKeyunna Sick finished second in the 200.  Though Sick finished second, the performance vaulted her to the Gold Team for the week. 

Logansport’s Jamarcus Jones snatched two third place medals in the 100 and 200 m runs.  Jones both performance made the Silver team.  Khameron Boykins collected a third place medal in the long jump.  Boykins may not have won but his jump placed him on the Gold Team for this week.

Castor Invitationals (March 16)

The Castor Invitational gave a lot of teams their first chance to perform this season including the host team.   Castor boys won the boys’ division while Rayville won the girls’ team competition.  Gibsland-Coleman finished as runner-up for both boys and girls 

Castor team as a whole grabbed 11 slots on the Gold and Silver Team.  The most of any other team this week.  Castor boys won the their division.  The Castor teams claimed 19 medals total at the meet.  Jamarion Clark claimed three first place medals.  Jamarion Clark won the high jump (6-02), triple jump (40-03), and as a member of the 4 x 400 relay team.   Other members of the 4 x 400 were Gage Jordan, Seth Pickett, and DeAndre Clark.  Pickett also collected three medals total.  Along with the relay medal, Pickett finished second in the 400 m run and third in the 200 m run.  Jordan collected a second gold medal in the javelin (128-05).  Little brother DeAndre Clark took a second medal in the long jump with a second place finish.  The winner of the long jump (20-00) was teammate Antwon Bolyer. Branden Cox collected two third place medals for the 800 m run and pole vault.   Austin Cooper won the 400 m run (56.65) race for the Tigers.  Dawson Wood launched the shot put (45-09.25) to a gold medal.  Caden Bryant finished second in the discus competition. Johnathan Warren finished behind teammate Jordan in third in a tightly contest javelin throw.  Jamarion Clark, Gage Jordan, and Dawson Wood all garnered spots on the Gold Team this week. Clark filled two slots on the team this week  Caden Bryant and Brenden Cox each made the Silver Team for the boys competition.   The Castor Lady Tigers grabbed two individual first medals.  Anna Kate Myers captured the pole vault (8-06) title.  Ambree Collinsworth won the javelin (104-09) by over 17 feet.  Melayah Rogers finished second in the shot put.   Kaylie Ann Shirley collected two medals for the Lady Tigers completing the 800m in third and as part of the 4 x 400 relay team which finished third also.  Other members of the relay team were Jenna Braggs, Zoie Loftin, and Hannah Millner.  Collinsworth and Myers achievements gave them membership on the girls team this week. Shirley and her 4 x 400 compadres made appearances on the Silver Team this week.  Rogers also reached the Silver team this week. 

Gibsland-Coleman meant business on both the boys and girls side as they tied Castor for 19 total medals.  The Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs both finished second in the team competitions. GCHS was barely edged out on the Gold and Silver Team for the week by finishing with 10 slots on the boys and girls team.  Demarquis Durham took three first place medals for the Bulldogs.  Demarquis Durham won the 100m (11.74) and as part of the 4 x 100 (45.93) and 4 x 200 (1:36.43) relay teams.  Other members of the two relay teams were Deavery Durham, Dadrail Chatham and Carlos Rudolph.   Deavery Durham also claimed three medals as he added the second place medal for 100 m.  Carlos Rudolph was runner-up in the 110 hurdles.  Michael Woodford claimed a 300 hurdles (45.45) gold medal and a silver in the triple jump.  Jaylin Croney flew the discus (99-08.50) to a first place finish.  Terrance James finished in second place in the high jump.  Rictavious Harris finished second in the 1600 run.  Demarquis Durham, Rictavious Harris, and Jaylin Croney all were added to the Gold Team for the week.  Terrance James and Michael Woodford were selected to the Silver Team.   Samora Sampson led the Lady Bulldogs capturing four medals. Sampson won the 100 hurdles (17.92).  Sampson grabbed three runner-ups in the long jump, triple jump, and 4 x 100 relay.  Other members of the 4 x 100 relay were Baleigh Haulcy, Ca’Riya Lewis, and Shamaria Durham.  Haulcy also claimed a third place medal in the triple jump and as part of the 4 x 200 relay team.  Other members on the 4 x 200 team were Arianna Williams, Ca’Riya Lewis, and Don’Shayla Rushing.  Williams also finished third in the 300 hurdles.  Jordan Allen took the high jump (5-00) crown and was runner-up in the 300 hurdles.   Samora Sampson and Jordan Allen achieved being on the Gold Team for the week.  Sampson also made the Silver Team on the triple jump and long jump and as a part of the 4 x100 relay team. 

Quitman Wolverines and Lady Wolverines took 15 medals at the Castor Invitationals.  Taylor Huddleston had a spectacular day taking two first place medals in the 1600 m run (5:12.73) and 3200 m run (12:20.43) and a second place in the 800 m run.  Nathan Harvey also claimed three medals for the Wolverines.   Harvey won the 100 hurdles (17.69) and placed third in the 300 hurdles and as part of the third place 4 x 200 relay team.   Other members of the  4 x 200 were Geoffrey Maxwell, Jayden Harts, and Jamall Johnson.  Bryan Lay won the pole vault (13-00) competition.  Asher Shultz finished second in the javelin.  Sebastian Guin also was a runner-up in the shot put. Gage Horton took bronze in the 1600 m run.  Huddleston and Lay made the Gold Team for the week for the Wolverines.  Shultz and Guin achieved the Silver Team of the week.  Kaleigh King took the only gold medal for the Lady Wolverines in the 300 hurdles (54.86).  King also finished third in the pole vault.  Emma Carter was runner-up in the high jump. The Lady Wolverines 4 x 200 relay and 4 x 100 brought second and third, respectively.  Members of the two squads are Neysha Johnson, Maddi Grace Giddens, Emayshia Wiley, and Bethany Leach.   The 4 x 200 relay team, Kaleigh King, and Emma Carter all qualified for the Silver Team.

Converse Wildcats and Lady Wildcats took nine medals back to Sabine Parish from Castor.  Logan Carter finished third in the 3200 run and as part of the 4 x 400 Relay team which finished as runner-up.  Other members of the 4 x 400 relay are Auldyn Sepulvado, Jayden Reynold, and Chezny Reed.  Reynold also finished third in the 3200 m run.   Abigail Bozeman claimed three medals for the Lady Wildcats.  Bozeman was still dominant in the long running events winning the 3200 m run (15:46.91) and runner-up in the 1600.  Bozeman was also runner-up with the 4 x 400 relay team.   Other members of the 4 x 400 team are Kayli Morgan, Bailey Rutherford, and Gracie Garcie.  Morgan also finished third in the 1600 run.  Karley Rutherford finished behind Bozeman in second.  Ava Ezernack claimed runner-up in the discus competition.  Abigail Bozeman and the 4 x 400 relay team qualified for this week’s Gold Team. 

Doyline’s Izayla Harris went a perfect four for four winning all her competitions.  Harris won the 100 (12.34), 200 (25.91), 400 (1:02.76), and triple jump (33-03.50).  Takerria Washington finished as runner-up in the 800.   Keily Sumlin launched a third place finish in the discus competition.   Harris made three slots on the Gold Team and one slot on the Silver Team.   Washington made the Gold Team for the 800 m run slot. 

Weston’s Juan Gonzalez was the sole medalist for the Wolves boy team.  Gonzalez finished third in the shot put.   The Lady Wolves snatched five medals.  Jalexia Claridy took two first place medals in the discus (90-07) and shot put (32-06.50). Claridy made the Gold Team for shot put and the Silver Team for discus.   Carroll Foshee finished runner-up in the pole vault.  Lexie Millien took second place in the 100 hurdles.  

Arcadia Hornets boys team took a trio of third place medals.  Omarion Carr finished third in 110 hurdles.  Omarion Carr was also part of the 4 x 100 relay team that placed third.  Other members were Braylon Roberson, Ryheem Abney, and Bratreviauntae Ferrell.  Dmitri Carr II finished third in the discus competition.  JaKyria Cockerham gained two third place medals in the 100 and 200 m runs.  Rhyanna Abney was runner-up in the 400 m run.  Cockerham and Abney both made the Silver Team this week. 

The Saline Bobcats took five medals at the Castor Invitational.  Trenton Ledbetter took top honors in the 800 m run (2:16.34).   Delonte Rager-Ridley finished third in the high jump.  The Lady Bobcats claimed three of those five medals.  Alana Gray finished third in the long jump.  Jordan Williams vaulted the javelin to a third place finish.  Xyzeria Lard tossed the shot put to a third place finish.  Ledbetter’s 800 m run landed him on this week’s Gold Team. 

2023 Don Austin Memorial (Lakeside) (March 17)

The Lakeside hosted track meet featured eight local girls and boys teams.  North Webster claimed the boys team title with Jonesboro-Hodge finished as runner-up.   Lakeside girls edged out Haynesville for the team title. 

Once again, Haynesville boys and girls teams dominated the medal platform grabbing 20 combined medals.   Haynesville girls placed in all four relay races.  Zyariah Mosi grabbed four medals for the Golden Tornado girls.  Mosi Finished second in the triple jump and third in the long jump.   Mosi was also part of the second place 4 x 200 relay team and the third place 4 x 400 team.  Other members of the 4 x 200 team and 4 x 400 are Layla Tell, ZaNaiya Kingsby, and Tremaya Curry.  Tell also claimed a runner-up in the high jump.  Kingsby finished third in the 100 m run.  Curry also placed third with the 4 x 100 relay team.  Other members of the 4 x 100 were Kingsby, Arielle Modisette and Kahlia Washington.  Washington claimed two individual medals and finished third in both the triple jump and high jump.  The Haynesville girls 4 x 800 claimed runner-up.  Members of the 4 x 800 relay team were Cherokee Oglee, Janiya Jackson, Modisettem and Yesenia Meadors.  Alayna Tabor took second in the 3200 m run and third in the 1600 m run.   The Golden Tornado girls 4 x 100, 4 x 200, and 4 x 800 all reached the Gold Team for the week.  On the boys side, Alonzo Jackson picked up three medals for Haynesville boys.  Jackson won the 200 m run (23.56) and won with the 4 x 100 relay (44.50) and finished as runner-up with the 4 x 200.  Other members of the 4 x 100 team are Karmarion Penegar, J’Karius Turner, and Keizavion Woods.  Along with Jackson, Penegar, and Turner were also on the 4 x 200.  DaMondra Martin was also a part of the runner-up with the 4 x 200 team but took gold with the 4 x 800 relay team (10:19.86) also.  Other members of the 4 x 800 team were Isaiah Washington, Byruss Burns, and Zykerius Fielding.  Martin claimed third place in the long jump. Burns took home a third place in the 110 hurdles.    Jermarquis Hampton finished runner-up in the high jump.  Carl Smith took third in the 3200m run.   Haynesville boys 4 x 100, 4 x 200, and 4 x 800 relays are all glittering on the Gold Team.  

The host team Lakeside kept medals in 15 events.  The Lakeside Lady Warriors also took home top team honors for the meet.   Top Lady Warrior McKenzie Chase kept three medals home.  Chase won the pole vault (7-00) and placed third with the 400 m run.  Chase placed second with the 4 x 400 relay team.  Other members of the relay team were Jalacia Roberson, Bailey Mangrum, and Ty’Teyanna Williams.  Lexi Bradley won the 1600 m (6:36.00) race.  Lillian Joy won the 800 m run (2:56.56).  Madison McGraw outlasted everyone on the 3200 m run (16:23.94).  Aguinaga finished behind Bradley in second in the 1600.  Ja’Kiah Williams placed third in the 200 m run.  Bradley and McGraw made an appearance on the Silver team for the week. Jacoby Curry claimed two first place medals for the Lakeside Warrior boys track and field team.   Curry won the 800 m run (2:19.34) and won as part of the 4 x 400 relay team.  Other members of the 4 x 400 team were Omero Urbina, Jordan Case, and Jaylon Jackson.  Urbina also finished as runner up in the 400 m run.  Case finished runner-up in the pole vault.  Tamarjah Ferrell soared to a triple jump (39-05) crown. Drake Puckett finished as runner-up in the 3200 m run.  Jeremiah Allen was third in the high jump.   Lakeside’s 4 x 400 relay was labeled as Gold Team solid this week.    Urbina, Curry, and Puckett all received Silver Team honors. 

Jonesboro-Hodge Tigers and Lady Tigers took 14 medals back to Jackson Parish.  Savantez Phillips and Zion Gray both captured three medals.  Phillips won the 300 hurdles (43.34) and finished runner-up in the 110 hurdles.  Gray won the 400 m run (54.33) and placed second in the triple jump.  Both Phillips and Gray were part of the 4 x 400 runner-up squad.   Other members of the 4 x 400 were D’Marrion Thompson and Cameron Leonard.  Leonard also claimed a runner-up in the 300 m hurdles behind Phillips.  Thompson was bronze in the 400 m run.   Daelan Boston took two third place finishes in the 800 and 1600 runs.  Landon Boston completed the triple jump in third place.   Zion Gray received a Gold Team honor this week for his 400m run performance.  Savantez Phillips received two slots on the Silver Team this week for his hurdle performances.   Ciara Gray showed out for the Sibley crowd taking two first place performances in the 300 hurdles (51.89) and long jump (16-01).  Gray also claimed second place in the 100 m hurdles.  A’Jorriana Hoggro won the high jump (4-06) competition.   Ciara Gray was acknowledged twice on the Gold Team for her 300 m hurdles and long jump results.  Gray also made the Silver Team for the 100 m hurdles.   

Homer Pelicans and Lady Pelicans captured 10 medals.   Jarek Shelton medaled in all four of his events.  Shelton won the long jump (21-00) and finished third in the 100 m run.  Shelton was also part of the second place 4 x 100 relay and third place 4 x 400 team.  The 4 x 400 team also included Spencer Dunn, Robtavious Monroe, and Katrevick Banks.  Banks and Shelton were also members of the 4 x 100 relay team along with Elyjay Curry and Gregory Williams.  Williams was runner-up in the 200 m run.  Curry also won the 100 run (11.65).  Curry was also part of the third place 4 x 200 relay team along with Dunn, Monroe, and Derron Donell,.  The 4 x 800 also placed third.  The members of the 4 x 800 team were Decarviuantae Burks, Blake Camp, Javion Franklin, and Jordan Glover.  Jarek Shelton was awarded the Silver Team for his long jump performance.  Also honored on the Silver Team were the 4 x 100, 4 x 200, and 4 x 800 teams. 

The one-woman wrecking team Izayla Harris was the sole competitor for Doyline and claimed gold in all four of her events.   Harris won the 100 (12.64), 200 (27.17), 400 (1:03.61), and triple jump.  For clarification of the Gold and Silver Team awards for the week,  Harris competed twice for the week and had the top 2 times in each of the 100, 400, and triple jump.  She would have claimed both Gold and Silver if she was able to claim both spots.  Harris was barely edged out by La’Tykeyunna Sicks of Mansfield on the 200 m run.  Harris snatched the Gold Team sport for the 100, 400, and triple jump and the Silver Team on the 200 m run.
