Nine teams remain after the second round. A couple of extra-inning games occurred in the second round as Winnfield needed 12 innings to pull the upset over South Beauregard. Their prize now is a matchup with defending state champion Doyle. Winnfield’s Josie Davidson pitching kept the Lady Tigers close with her 9 strikeouts. Choudrant also needed extra innings to knock off Harrisonburg on the road. The Lady Aggies got help from a top performance from Zoey Smith going 4 for 4 with a double and home run and gaining 4 RBIs. They now will have a home game against top-seeded Holden who eliminated Summerfield in the second round.
Calvary opened the playoffs by blasting Catholic-New Iberia 15-0. Ramsey Walker went on a home run tirade firing off three home runs and picking up 7 RBIs. Ella Franks joined Walker in multiple home runs by knocking two out of the park. Mary Grace Woodle and Abby Sims also joined the Lady Cavalier home run club for the game. Unfortunately for the Lady Cavs, the second-round game will be their last home game of the season as they will have to travel to Holy Savior Menard in the quarterfinal and hopefully they will be at their home away from home which is the LHSAA State Tournament in pursuit of a third consecutive state title.
Louisiana Christian University signee Rayni River and Avery Prine put in top performances to stop another upset by Maurepas in the second round.
Cedar Creek advanced to the quarterfinals with a 12-7 win over fellow district rival Ouachita Christian. Mallory Smith and Peyton Muse pushed the Lady Cougars through the controversial game with some top-hitting performances.
Division V Non-Select can be an all-Northwest Louisiana state tournament. Stanley and Quitman are the only two local teams to face each other in the quarterfinals. Converse, Florien, and Choudrant will shoot for the state tournament.
