The first round of the LHSAA High School Softball Playoff was complete and only one local team was upset as Maurepas and Saline combined for 39 runs with Maurepas having the upper hand with 26. Loyola and Stanley had stellar performances in their first-round matchup. Both teams had multiple entries on the Hot 9 and each had a pitcher on the Top 3 Pitching Rotation. Loyola placed three in the Hot 9. Stanley placed two. Despite getting eliminated in the first round in extra innings, Zwolle’s Taylor Faust ended her season with a fantastic finish and the top performance of the week.
After the end of the first round, sixteen teams remain. The majority of them will be home for the second round as last week’s bye team will get their first taste of playoff action. The longest trip of the week will almost be 300 miles for the Summerfield Lady Rebels as they will head south to face No. 1 Holden. All games for the second round must be complete by Wednesday, April 19. A quick turnaround from the first round.
Keep up with the playoff softball action here on UTRNWLA.
