The LHSAA released the High School Baseball playoffs on Tuesday, April 18 afternoon. The playoffs will have a new feel this year with some rule changes. Division I – III will now have all rounds as Best of 3 series.
The number of teams that qualify has dropped in each Division. In Non-Select Schools the number of teams that qualify from Division I through V is now 24. The number of teams that qualify in Select from Division I I through IV will be 20. Division V Select schools only have 10 teams qualify.
Divisions is a new breakout of teams used in playoffs instead of Class. Division III is a mix of Class 2A and 3A schools. Division IV is a mix of Class 1A and 2A schools. Division V is a mix of Class B & C.
Looking at Division III – V, nine of the 21 teams that qualified will get the first weekend off as they drew byes. Winnfield collected a bye in Division III Non-Select. Calvary took a first round bye in Division III Select. Division IV Non-Select will see Logansport and Lakeside have to wait on an opponent. Division IV Select sees Glenbrook in their first playoff appearance in LHSAA and have to wait a week to start their path for a state championship. Four team in Division V Non-Select will have byes. Choudrant, Converse, Quitman and Weston will all have to wait.
Choudrant was the only local team to draw the No. 1 seed in any of the bracket.
Only three teams will have to travel in the first round. Loyola Prep will have the farthest to travel as they will get a weekend in New Orleans to face Isidore Newman in a Best of 3 series. Haynesville baseball won’t have to go as far as the softball team but their trip to Lake Charles area to face Grand Lake in the first round is a 237 mile trip.
Division V will be the only division where local teams will face each other. No. 17 Doyline will have to travel to No. 16 Simsboro. No. 19 Saline will have to head to Desoto Parish to take on No. 14 Stanley.
