In only their second year, Shreveport United Women have clinched a playoff spot in the GCPL. The United Women clinched with a 4-0 win over Baton Rouge United in their final match of the regular season at Loyola’s Messmer field.
I’m proud of the ladies for earning a playoff birth in only the 2nd year of our program.” said head coach Mark Matlock. “ The quality of the league was high this year and it is a testament to their efforts and to the talent we have in this area. Many of our players are homegrown club players and it is exciting to see them continue competing after they finish their youth careers and move on to the collegiate game. We are ready to hit the road to Hattiesburg or Pensacola to see if we can make the finals!”.
On the men’s side of Shreveport United, United is still in the playoff race despite starting 0-4. The men moved to 2-4 after a 3-2 win over DFW Strikerz at Loyola’s Messmer Stadium on Saturday afternoon. United moved into third place as Central Texas Lobos defeated Dagger CTX 2-1 to keep United and FC Sharp Keys still alive. If Shreveport United want to make the run, they will have to do it against the Western Conference champs Central Texas Lobos and the current second-place team Dagger CTX both on the road.
In USL2, Blue Goose ran into a buzz saw against a playoff-seeking Little Rock Rangers squad on the road. Blue Goose fell in double digits for the third time this season as they lost 11-0.

Lauren Egbulonia netted the first goal with an assist from Brooklyn Lattier. Egbulonia struck again with the assist from Ellie Lawrence. Khiana Roraback scored the third goal with an assist from Egbulonia. Mary Helen Burford scored the final goal with an assist from Mary Helen Van Hoy.

Shreveport United will now have to wait to see either if they will be heading to Pensacola or Hattiesburg for the semifinal match. Mississippi Blues will be the top seed coming out of the Western and will be hosting the second place in the Eastern Conference. Pensacola and Hattiesburg have already clinched the Eastern Conference playoff spots. Pensacola has one game remaining on July 8 against Union 10. Hattiesburg will face Gulf Coast United on Wednesday night and Florida Roots on Saturday night.

Shreveport jumped out with two first-half goals. Tom Cobham scored with 15:30 left in the first half. Shreveport scored in the second half with a goal from Alex Baltov and an assist from Sean French. Shreveport added a third goal to get the win.

Shreveport United with the win stayed alive and moved out of the cellar in the Western Conference. They are on a razor’s edge of still making the playoffs. United cannot suffer a loss in their final two games. They will need a minimum of 4 points in the standings to make the playoffs. They also will have to rely on Daggers CTX to not tie or win their final two games. A tie with Central Texas and a win over Daggers CTX could get them in on goal differential. Blue Goose held the Rangers back until the 29th minute when Ethan Blake netted the first goal. Gustav Ferrarri netted the next two goals in the 34th and 37th minutes. Stefano Campisi added another Little Rock goal in the 41st minute. Little Rock Rangers took the 4-0 lead into halftime. Ferrari got his hat trick in the 53rd minute. A quick three goals were scored by Pablo Candal (58th), Pascal Panfino (60th), and Jon Coca Juarista (63rd). Marvin Sibanda netted the goal in the 73rd minute. Lance Crabtree finished off the match with an 87th-minute goal for the Rangers to win.

The Central Conference playoff picture is becoming clearer for the Midsouth Division. The Midsouth Division champion will automatically qualify for the Central Conference playoffs. The wild card playoff spot is shared with the Lone Star Division. The second-place team with the better record in the two divisions will qualify. AHFC Royals has already clinched the Lone Star division title. Little Rock and Texas United are still in a battle for the Midsouth Division. These two teams are the only ones still eligible for the playoffs from the Midsouth Division. They both are in a very good position to make the playoffs. Twin City Toucans is still in the running for the wild card spot out of the Lone Star Conference. A win by Little Rock will qualify them for at least a wild card spot. A win or tie by Texas United will qualify them for at least a wild card spot.
