Mudbugs Wins Final Game at NAHL Showcase - Under The Radar - NW Louisiana

The Shreveport Mudbugs said goodbye to Blaine, Minnesota and the NAHL Showcase with a 3-1 win over the St. Cloud Norsemen in hand.   Shreveport left the NAHL Showcase finishing 2-2 and sitting in sixth in the Southern Division.  Don’t worry, there is a lot of hockey to come for the remainder of the season.

Lukas Sedlacek gave Shreveport the first goal a little over halfway through the first period.  Patrick Roginski and Evan Mitchell gave an assist with Sedlacek’s goal.  The Norsemen got an opportunity was a power play with a holding call against Davis Goukler.  Shreveport killed the power play.  With 30 seconds remaining in the first period, Connor Gatto gave the Mudbugs a two-goal lead before the end of the period.  Austin Brimmer was credited with the assist.  Mudbugs led 2-0.

The Norsemen didn’t help their cause as Blake Messenberger was charged a double minor of high sticking.  The Norsemen survived the extended penalty.  They didn’t survive the second goal by Sedlacek with 7:33 remaining.  Logan Valkama was credited with the assist.  The extended power play option gave the Mudbugs an 11-4 shot on goal in the second period.  Shreveport took a 3-0 lead into the final period.

The Mudbugs caught then penalty bug in the final period.  Drake Morse was charged with an interference minor penalty.   Nick Young of the Norsemen returned the favor midway through the period.  Shreveport took their second penalty with a slashing call against Haydon Nichol.  The Mudbugs killed a second power play.   A third came with a little under four minutes to play as Austin Brimmer was caught on a hooking call.  Ryan O’Neil scored right before the penalty to put the Norsemen on the scoreboard.  Shreveport held on for the 3-1.

The Mudbugs will come home this coming weekend and take in the US National Under-17 Team on Friday at 6:11 pm and on Saturday at 7:11 pm.  Also available this weekend is the Mudbugs Alumni game which will be at 2:11 pm and free admission on Saturday.
