The Janesville Jets came into the Friday matinee game without a win, but they gave the Mudbugs more than they could handle.  A wild final five minutes of the second period added to the drama of the matchup.

Janesville got the lone goal in the first period with a goal from William Gustavsson almost five minutes into the first period.  Cy LeClerc and Alex Thundercloud we’re credited with the assists.  The Mudbugs had a power-play chance when Jets’ JJ Webusch had was charged with a high sticking call.  The two teams got an even amount of shots with six each.  Janesville took a 1-0 lead after the first period.

Shreveport stormed back into the game in the first five minutes of the second period with a goal by John Hallard and an assist by Drake Morse.  The tie didn’t last long as Janesville jumped back on top with a goal by Mack Keryluk with an assist by JJ Wiebusch just under two minutes later.  Logan Gotinsky caused the second tie of the game with a score and an assist by Jake Mack.  With 4:23  Davis Goukler was ejected from the game with a major penalty head contact penalty causing Shreveport to play the final minutes down a skater.   Mudbugs didn’t let it intimidate as Jacob Onstott found the back of the net with a short-handed goal and gave the Mudbugs their first lead of the game at 3-2.  They would have to survive 3:38 of the remaining period.  No such luck.  Janesville scored with a little over 2 minutes remaining by Will Troutwine and an assist by AJ Casperson. The two teams entered the final period knotted at 3.

The Mudbugs still had a lingering 23 seconds from the major penalty of the second period.  They killed the final seconds and six seconds later went to a 5 on 4 advantage with a hooking call against the Jets.  No power-play goal for the Bugs.  Janesville gave Shreveport another power-play opportunity behind a boarding penalty.  The Jets capitalized though with a short-handed goal by Mack Keryluk and a 4-3 lead.   With a little under four minutes remaining, Shreveport forced another tie with a goal from Jacob Onstott.  The Jets would not allow long before they took their fourth lead of the game as Grayden Daul with an assist by Keryluk with two and a half minutes left.  Shreveport scrambled to score and pulled their goalie for another skate.  Keryluk sealed the game and his hat trick with an empty net goal with 24 seconds remaining.

Mudbugs used David Filak between the pipes for the first time.  Filak made 18 saves for the game.

Shreveport will wrap up the NAHL Showcase on Saturday afternoon at 3:15 against the St. Cloud Norsemen (1-1-0).
