The Shreveport Mudbugs are starting to get an out-of-division rivalry with South Dakota-based Aberdeen Wings.  The Wings only lost four regular-season games last season and only one game during the playoffs and they were heavily favored to send the Bugs back to Shreveport without a trophy.  That didn’t happen as the Robertson Cup returned to Louisiana for the second time in three seasons.  Tonight was a chance for the Wings to get revenge on the Mudbugs.  Goalkeeper Devan Bobak recorded not only his first win as a Mudbugs but his first shutout with the 1-0 victory.  Bobak made 25 saves for the night.  The lone goal came from Burke Simpson with an assist from Connor Gatto.  Taking the most shots for Shreveport were Billy Feczko and Logan Valkoma with 4 each.

The two evenly matched teams made this a defensive struggle with neither showing the discipline to not give an edge to the other.  In the first period, Aberdeen outshot the Mudbugs 9-6.  Neither team received a penalty in the first period.

The second period looked to be much of the same as the two teams matched shots with seven each.   Almost nine minutes into the second period, Wings defenseman  Luke Amell committed a high sticking infraction giving the Mudbugs a power play.  The Bugs couldn’t capitalize on the opportunity.  The two teams remained scoreless after two periods.

Mudbugs started the third giving up a power-play with a slashing penalty just 1:48 into the third period.  Shreveport survived the advantage and kept the game scoreless.   Josh German from Shreveport and Will Diamond headed to the penalty box for slashing with just a little under a minute from the previous penalty.   Both teams defensively kept the game scoreless after four on four on the ice.   With 3:12 remaining in regulation, Burke Simpson found an opening to score for the Mudbugs and take the lead.   Shreveport would hold on for the win.

The Mudbugs will have an afternoon matinee game at 2:30 tomorrow as they will face the Midwest Division Janesville Jets who are currently winless at (0-3-0).  The Jets have been outscored 12-3 in their three games.
