The Loyola Flyers golf team finished as the state runner-up at the Ochsner Health LHSAA Division III State Golf Tournament at Cane Row’s Golf Course in New Iberia on Tuesday afternoon.  The Flyers golf team shot a 602 as a team and state champion Ascension Episcopal shot 567.  This was Ascension Episcopals’ fifth consecutive boys team title.  Ascension Episcopal had the top three of five golfers.  The Division III state champion Jay Mendall from Ascension Episcopal  shot a 132 (-12) while state runner-up teammate Kale Fontenot shot a 133 (-11).  

Loyola golfers faired well placing four in the top 10.  Connor Cassano was the top Flyer golfer finished third shooting a 147 (+5).  After having a rough first day shootin 8-over par, Charlie Bell turned around the second day and shot par finishing tied for sixth with fellow Flyer Jack Gilmer.  Ross Alford rounded out the top ten shooting 154 (+12).  Charlie Valiulis finished 12th shooting 157 (+15)

Calvary Cavalier golf team finished in seventh place scoring 786.  The top Cavalier golfer was Ezra Smith who shot 187.  Noah Wassom shot 193. Trip Jones finished with a 201.  Hunter Harris shot 205.  

Individual competitor, Lakeside’s Travis Randle finished in the top 20 shooting a 185.  Jonesboro-Hodge’s Ajay Tew had a better second round shooting 98 finishing with a 198.

In Division IV, Episcopal-Acadiana won the state championship shooting 610 at Bayou Bend Country Club in Crowley.  Former state champion Ouachita Christian finished as state runner-up with 628.  In the individual competition, Logan Heltz from Christ Episcopal shooting 136 (-4) .  Riverside Academy’s Cole Haase finished at 142 (+2)  and state runner-up.  

Quitman finished third overall in Division IV with 631, just three strokes back of state runner-up Ouachita Christian.  Eli Walker was the top Wolverine finishing tied for third overall hitting 143 (+3).  Two Quitman golfers finished in the top 20.  Pete Simonelli finished 16th with 158.  Noah Leach completed the the two rounds 20th place shooting 163.  Cam Deal shot 169 for Quitman.  

Cedar Creek boys shot 652 and finished fourth overall.  Top Cougar Jes Stephens shot 151 (+11) and finished eighth overall.  Grey Worthey also had a top 20 finish shooting 153 (+13).  Parker Bush finished with a 187.   Alex Roebuck had an 85 in the first round. 

Weston’s Tayt Culpepper had a strong top 20 finish shooting 155.  St. Mary’s sent two golfers to state.  Mixon Bankston finished with a 173.  Peter Kautz shot 180. 

In Division II girls competition, Ursuline Academy claimed the state title shooting 332 at Les Vieux Chenes Golf Club in Youngsville.  St. Martin’s and Ascension Catholic tied as state runner-up. Morgan Guepet from St. Martin won the individual state championship with a score of 142 (-4) for the two rounds.  Sophia Macias from Episcopal finished as runner-up scoring 147 (-1).

Loyola Lady Flyers finished sixth in the team competition with a score of 424.  April Williams was the top Lady Flyer golfer finishing in the top 20 with a score of 195.  Kathryn Jackson had a score of 229.  

Many completed the tournament seventh in the team competition scoring 490.  Emma Penfield shot 235.  Abby Wilson scored 255.
