Valentine’s Day became a day of excitement for some North Louisiana girls basketball teams and some were heartbreak.

Class A

No. 5 Arcadia (18-9), First Round Bye

The Lady Hornets run through district pushed them to a No. 5 seed and a first-round bye.  Arcadia is riding a 12-game winning streak.  They will have a home game against the winner of No. 12 Lasalle (21-13) and No. 21 Tensas (4-17).  Lasalle has won 5 of their last 6 games.  Tensas has lost the last 8 of 9.

No. 9 Homer (12-10) v. No. 24 Block (4-19) – Friday, February 18 @ 6 pm

The Lady Pels were slightly edged out of a first-round bye and will face the lowest seed in the bracket at home.  Block (4-19) is coming with a 12-game losing streak.  The winner will be traveling to No. 8 Oberlin (19-7).

No. 17 Haynesville (9-18) at No. 16 Plain Dealing (10-17) – Thursday, February 17 @ 6 pm

The first of two district rematches in the local playoffs.  The two split earlier in the season with the difference being no more than 3 points.  The Tors are coming off a big win over Homer.   Plain Dealing is coming off a four-game skid starting with the Haynesville loss.  The Lady Lions will have the advantage of home court, though.  The winner will advance to face No. 1 Northwood-Lena (34-1)

No. 20 Lincoln Prep (4-18) at No. 13 East Beauregard ((10-17)

The Lady Panthers started firing at the right time as they worked their way into one of the 24 slots in the Class A playoffs and will have to travel to DeRidder to face East Beauregard in a first round matchup. Just like Lincoln Prep, East Beauregard has been on and off at the end of the season swapping between wins and losses in their last six games. With the uncertainty of which team will show up, this might be a toss up and the Lady Panthers may have to head back to Beauregard Parish for a clash with No. 4 Merryville.

Class B

No. 18 Doyline (21-10) at No. 15 Castor (16-11) – Thursday, Feb 17 @ 6 pm

The one thing that will be for sure is that only one team from District 1-B will be around after the first round.  Castor was vaulted into a home playoff position due to the fact of getting the bonus power point for being district champs.  That pushed them to No. 15.  Doyline had a grueling week last week winning three of five games to pass the 20-win mark.  One of those two losses last week was the district title at Castor.   The Lady Tigers have won 9 of their last 10 games.  The winner of The first round will head to No. 2 Fairview (33-5) next.

Class C

No. 15 Pleasant Hill (7-22) at No. 2 Gibsland-Coleman (23-5) – Monday, February 21 @ 6 pm

The Lady Bulldogs are looking for a repeat trip to Marsh Madness with a home playoff game against Pleasant Hill.  Class C only has a 16-team bracket so no one benefits from a bye.   The one advantage of being a No. 2 is if all falls according to plan,  the Lady Bulldogs will have a back-to-back home game if they win their first playoff game and No. 7 Atlanta wins.  Otherwise, they may have to travel to the next round. As for Pleasant Hill, the Lady Eagles have fallen on some hard times at the end of the season dropping 11 of their last games.

No. 14 Epps (7-14) at No. 3 Summerfield (25-11) – Friday, February 18 @ 6pm

The Lady Rebels are looking at a similar situation as their district cohorts.  A possibility of home court to Marsh Madness in Hammond exists.  The cards have to fall just right also.  If they get past Epps, they would need No. 6 Reeves to win to be home the next round.  A win by Calvin and the Lady Rebels will be going a little way down the road.  If you look down the bracket, a rematch with district for Gibsland-Coleman could meet in the Marsh Madness in the semis.
