The LHSAA girls’ basketball playoffs were released on Monday, February 13 morning.  Twenty-two local teams will be starting the second season starting on Thursday evening.

Four local teams received first round byes.   Lakeview Lady Gators received the highest seed among local teams with a No. 2 seed.   In the same Division IV Nonselect, back-to-back district champs Arcadia received one of the precious top 4 seeds in Non Select.   Gibsland-Coleman’s treacherous schedule and success paid off as they received a No. 3 seed and a first round bye in Division V Nonselect playoffs.   Cedar Creek is the only select team in the area to receive a first round bye with a No. 7 seed in Division IV Select.

Eight of the local squads will be home for the first round.

Three local first round matchups will pair two local teams and all are in the Division V Nonselect bracket.  District 2-B district champ Simsboro will have to cross the state to take on District 3-B champ Florien in the first round.  Not as far to travel but Class C Summerfield will travel to Class B Quitman.   The Sabine Parish first round battle will occur in Division V Non Select with No. 23 Negreet will travel up the road to No. 10 Zwolle.  The Lady Indians and Lady Hawks competed all season for the District 3-B title.

Three teams will have to travel over 250 miles for their first round matchup.  Glenbrook will travel 266 miles to face Hanson Memorial in the first round.   Calvary will travel to Slidell (329 miles, 5 hours) to play Pope John Paul II on Thursday afternoon.   The longest first round trip will go to Castor Lady Tigers as they will travel to the “toe” of Louisiana to face Phoenix in a 344 mile trip estimated at 5 hours and 49 minutes.

All the fun will start later on this week. Stay tuned to Under the Radar NWLA on the latest update from girls basketball playoffs
