Gibsland Coleman Lady Bulldogs and Bulldogs took wins on the opening night of their hosted tournament.

The swarming aggressive defense of the Lady Bulldogs opened up the first quarter with six steals and opened up a 9-0 run to take a commanding 15-4 lead at the end of the first quarter.   Ke’Honesty Williams scored 6 of the 15 points and recorded three of the six steals for the quarter. 

The Lady Bulldogs continued their swarming defense and cruised into halftime with a 30-7 lead.  Family Community (2-3) lone goal in the second quarter came from Saylor Evans’ three-pointer.  

GCHS (2-1) opened up two big runs of eight points to widen their lead to 49-11 in the third quarter.  

The Lady Warriors scored late in the fourth to come close to matching the Lady Bulldogs in the final quarter.  GCHS rolled to the 58-19 win.

Jamaya Jackson was Gibsland Coleman’s top scorer with 15.  Ke’Honesty Williams was not only defense with her eight steals but added 15 points for her team.   Samore Sampson bucketed 11 points for the evening.

Saylor Evans was the top scorer with 7 points for Family Community.

The high powered defense by the Lady Bulldogs carried forward to the boys as opened the beginning quarter with a 27-3 lead and never let off the throttle for the remainder of the game.  The Bulldogs didn’t allow a field goal for the final six and a half minutes of the opening quarter.   Marcus Durham and Terrence James Gray piled in six points each in the first quarter.

Warner Polland sparked the Warrior offense with eight in the second quarter.   Durham continued into double digits for the game with another six.   Dontarius Coleman came into the mix as he added seven.  The Bulldogs added streaks of six points at least three times during the quarter as they took a 55-16 lead into halftime. 

Another 20-plus point quarter by the Bulldogs fueled their lead to 79-27 at the end of the third on the way to the 106-35 final. 

Gibsland-Coleman (2-2) spread the points around as Marcus Durham was top scorer with 17 points.   Terrence James Gray piled in 16.   Dontarius Coleman fired in 14.  Off the bench, Joshua Adams scored 13 points. 

Bulldogs coach Roger Jones saw a great effort by his team tonight. “This is the first time we’ve broken the clock in two years,” Jones said. “My boys just played hard tonight. It was good win for us. With three senior starters, we’re expecting to go a long way this year. We know it’s going to be a tough road but we’re going to keep fighting to get there. ”

Family Community (0-5) Warner Polland gave a good fight for his Warriors with 23 points for the night.

The Gibsland Coleman tournament will continue tomorrow evening as the Family Community boys will face New Living Word while the girls will taken on Summerfield. Gibsland-Coleman boys and girls will take on Choudrant.
