The first week’s return from holiday break saw basketball action kick back into gear. Well, maybe, limp along. The old COVID bug pushed a lot of cancellations and postponements across the gyms in North Louisiana.
Gibsland-Coleman Lady Bulldogs and Bulldogs each finished 2-0 for the week with wins over Dodson and Choudrant. Deavery Durham had the top performance with 24 points against Dodson. Terrance James also had big games this week to reach the Next 5 status. Samora Sampson had another big week with two 20-plus performances
Summerfield Lady Rebels also had a 2-0 week with wins over Plain Dealing and Haynesville. Malaysia Tate shined through with a 24 point performance against Plain Dealing pushed her up to Starting 5 status.
The only tournament for the week was the 82nd Bossier Boys Invitational where Calvary and Homer participated. Calvary only played on Saturday night and the Cavs ran into foul trouble but held with the perineal powerhouse Bossier Bearkats. Labree Williams still powered out a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds. Homer also got a sour taste of the Bearkats on Thursday night. The Pels bounced back on Saturday with a win over Minden. Takeviuante Kidd scored a massive 34 points against the Tide.
Doyline came up short against 5A Byrd but the duo of Jamaria Clark and Jamari Markray put up strong numbers with 28 and 22 points, respectively. The Panthers bounced back with Markray grabbing another 20 plus game across the state at Epps. Clark netted 19. The Lady Panthers also strutted for another win over Epps. Keily Sumlin netted a big 22 points in the win.
The Knights also went 1-1 falling short against Claiborne Academy early in the week. PCA finished the week strong by doubling up Tallulah. Bowman Lovell scored 31.
District play starts next Friday as District 1-A and 1-C will begin.
