College Report - Week Ending January 8, 2022 - Under The Radar - NW Louisiana

The road back from the holiday took a quick detour and some games had to be canceled or rescheduled.  Centenary had a doubleheader matchup on New Year’s Day and January 2 with Texas Lutheran and Southwestern that were postponed.  Southwestern is rescheduled for Jan 12.  Texas Lutheran is rescheduled for Jan 24.  Thursday night the Lady Pilots and Pilots got a forfeit win over Wiley College.  Although the Lady Pilots played against Texas A & M-Texarkana, the men’s game was postponed.   BPCC men’s game with the Northwestern St.  JV game was rescheduled to Jan 17.    Southern-Shreveport men’s game against Royal Ambassadors and Centenary JV has been canceled.  The Port City Jags will not see the court again until Jan 26 regional game against Delgado.  The Lady Jags will not play again until Jan 29. 

Men

LSUS and SUSLA were unable to play last week.  BPCC got in three-game while Centenary snuck in a game on Friday night. 

BPCC (9-6, 4-3, 2-0) Cavaliers knocked out 2 of 3 games with conference wins.  Monday night the Cavs beat Coastal Bend.  Jaeden Marshall netted 20 points and grabbed 8 rebounds.  Derick Hamilton also had a strong game with 18 points and 9 rebounds.  Eric McKnight scored 11 points.  Adrian Walker bucketed 10 and was credited with 6 assists.  Kamryn Guidry banged the boards for 5 rebounds.  Wednesday night the Cavs took the winning stretch to four games with a 76-62 win over Victoria College at home.  Marshall had another 20-plus point performance with 21 points.  Hamilton scored 12 points and grabbed 6 rebounds.  McKnight had 11 points and 5 assists.  Christian Caldwell and  Eric Wright snagged 5 rebounds each.  The streak was broken on Saturday with the Cavs dropping the game to

Lamar St. – Port Arthur 79-73.   Hamilton pulled off a double-double with 14 points and 14 rebounds.  Marshall had another top game with 11 points and 6 rebounds.  Jeremy Richard also scored 11 points and had 5 rebounds.  Kendrick Delahoussaye was the third player to score 11. McKnight netted 10 points.  Christian Caldwell was close to a double-double with 8 points and 9 rebounds. 

Centenary (6-5, 2-2) had to travel to Colorado Springs to face the Colorado College Tigers.  The Gents fell 93-74.  Braeden Board was the top scorer with 16 points.  AJ Hall bucketed 12 points and snatched 5 rebounds.   Seth Thomas scored 10 points

Women

Each of the women’s teams besides SUSLA got one game last week.  

BPCC Lady Cavaliers (8-6, 1-3) broke the clock on their first conference win of the season with a 101-69 victory.  Three Lady Cavs achieved double-doubles.  Ma’Kaila Lewis scorched the nets for 31 points and 18 rebounds.  Faith Robinson also had 31 points and had 15 rebounds.  DaNae Williams bucketed 10 points, 12 assists, 6 rebounds, and 6 steals.  Raven Johnson scored 11 points.   Aaliyah Stevenson was the fifth starter with double digits with 12 points.  Jermia Green took hold of the defensive rebounds with 7 and 8 total rebounds.  

LSUS Lady Pilots (7-7, 2-0) traveled north I-49 to grab a conference win from Texas A&M – Texarkana.   DeAuja Thompson was the top Lady Pilot scorer with 25 points and 5 rebounds.  Tatym Barnes also had double-digits with 14 points and 6 rebounds.  De’Azhia Smith helped grab 5 rebounds. 

Centenary Ladies (3-10, 1-4) dropped their third consecutive game.  The Ladies fell to Colorado College Tigers in Colorado Springs on Friday evening.  Minden native Destini Powell bucketed 19 points and grabbed 9 rebounds.   Addy Tremie scored 12 and also had 9 rebounds.  Dymon Drumgo kept the defense going with 5 defensive rebounds.
