A matchup a year in the making played out on Tuesday night.  Last year, Arcadia and Calvary shared the district title both with undefeated district records.  The matchup between the two was canceled due to COVID and never rescheduled.  Arcadia went on to win a state championship in Class A and Calvary finished with a state runner-up in Division IV.  No cancellation this year as they met at Calvary.   Two many situations as Calvary returns many from their lineup and Arcadia filling a lot of holes.  Bubba Strong got the Cavaliers going in the first quarter popping two 3-pointers but Javion Abney kept the Hornets close.  Calvary had a 13-10 lead after one quarter.  Abney continued to push Arcadia but in the process woke La’Bree Williams for 7 in the second.  Calvary slightly widened their lead to 33-29.   Malcolm McDowell helped Williams the Cavaliers rolling.  Omarion Carr took the torch in the third quarter for the Hornets as the two teams scored 14 each with Calvary maintaining their four-point lead.   Williams and McDowell lit up the scoreboard in the fourth quarter and outscored Arcadia 24-10 to take the big district win for the Cavaliers.  Arcadia bounced back on Friday over Haynesville.  Calvary took down one of the elite teams in Louisiana on the Extravaganza matchup with Scotlandville.  La’Bree Williams knocked down 27 against Arcadia and 24 against Scotlandville.

Lincoln Prep boys are still holding down first place in District 1-A with wins over Glenbrook and Plain Dealing.  The Panthers have multiple weapons on their team in D’mitri Payne, Braylan Mayfield, and Stephen Burke.  The two current undefeated district teams of Calvary and Lincoln Prep will meet in Shreveport on Tuesday, January 25.

Doyline Panthers opened district play on Thursday with a win over Castor.  The Panthers finished the week with a Saturday win over Kilbourne.  The duo of Jamari Markray and Jamaria Clark continued to have dominant performances.  Clark averaged 40 points over the two games.  Markray scored 30 against Castor and 24 against Kilbourne.

Saline opened district play with a win over Dodson with Titus Jackson netting 21.  Tuesday night the Bobcats will travel to Doyline to see who can take the reins of District 1-B.

Providence Knights are en route to grabbing back-to-back district titles as they dominated Franklin on Tuesday night and had a nailbiter against Claiborne Academy on Friday.  The Rebels got the best of the Knights in their matchup.  The battle in Bossier this time was close.  With a 1:20 Claiborne had closed the gap to 48-46.  The Rebels fouled Bowman Lovell.  Lovell nailed both free throws to push to a supposed 4-point lead.  CA Wells pops a 3-pointer with 10.4 seconds left to close at 50-49.   The Rebels fouled Lovell once again and the clutch free throws pushed to a 3 point lead with 8.4 seconds.  Wells went out of bounds with 6.3 left.  Providence was called on a backcourt call and gave Claiborne one more opportunity.  Hollenhead fired the last gasp three to no avail as the Knights grabbed the 52-49 win.

Ringgold grabbed two wins for the week including a big district win over Homer.  The Redskins also grabbed a win over Weston.  Keesean Johnson celebrated being part of 1000 point club at Ringgold.

On the Ladies side,  Arcadia showed this week that they are going to be a contender against Homer in the District 1-A race.  the Lady Hornets took wins over Calvary and Haynesville.  Homer took wins over Glenbrook and Ringgold.

Saline took the lead in the District 1-B race with a win over Dodson.  Doyline and Castor’s matchup was postponed.  Georgia Robinson scored over 20 points in each game against Quitman and Dodson.  Doyline and Saline will meet ON Tuesday night.

The two-team District 1-C can be wrapped up on Tuesday night with the second matchup in Gibsland.  Both teams have reached 21-wins.  The Lady Bulldogs have only lost four games all season.  Summerfield is rolling into the matchup with two wins over Doyline and Jonesboro-Hodge.  Gibsland-Coleman took down 3A Union Parish on Thursday night.  Samora Sampson was the top performer again this week with 29 points.  Malaysia Tate had two 20-plus performances

Big district ramifications are coming up next week.  Come back and see how your team will do.
