The four local colleges in the Shreveport/Bossier area are getting close to the end of the basketball season.   Three of the four were in action, as SUSLA Lady Jags will not have another game until conference play on January 29 on the road against Baton Rouge Community College.  SUSLA Port City Jags will return to action on January 26 on the road against Delgado.   LSUS once again had a postponement on the weekend game at Texas College in Tyler, TX.   BPCC Ladies stayed busy with three games over the week.   Centenary Gents just needed to say “there’s no place like home”.    Check out the recaps and who made this week’s Starting 5 and Next 5.

Women

BPCC Lady Cavs (9-7, 2-4) had a rough beginning of the week with losses to Blinn College and Panola College but ended strong with a win over Jacksonville.   Ma’Kaila Lewis controlled the boards against Blinn College with 17 rebounds including 13 offensive rebounds.  Faith Robinson also crashed the boards with 13 rebounds against the Lady Buccaneers.

LSUS Lady Pilots (8-7, 3-0) remained perfect in the Red River Athletic Conference with a road win over Jarvis Christian on Thursday evening.   This was the Lady Pilots’ 15 consecutive wins over the Lady Bulldogs. The last loss came in 2014.  Kiara Collins bucketed 16 points along with 6 rebounds.   DeAuja Thompson was a rebound shy of a double-double with 12 points and 9 rebounds.  Angel Reese was a machine below the bucket snagging 12 rebounds on both ends of the court (7 defensive, 5 offensive).  Chelsey White also grabbed 5 rebounds for the Lady Pilots.   LSUS was scheduled to face Texas College on Saturday but had the game postponed.

Centenary Ladies (3-11, 1-5) continued to struggle as they continued to drop their sixth straight game on Wednesday night against Southwestern Lady Pirates.  They also fell on Sunday afternoon against St. Thomas (TX) Lady Celts.  Minden’s Destini Powell was the top scorer against the Lady Celts on Sunday with 16 points and 8 rebounds.  Jazzmyn Jones also hit double digits with 11 points and 7 rebounds.  Jennae Mayberry helped grab 5 rebounds for the Ladies.   On Wednesday evening,  three Centenary had double-digit points.  Powell led once again with 14 points, 7 rebounds, and 7 assists.  Amelia Bagwell contributed 13 points and 5 rebounds.  Dymon Drumgo rounded out the double-digit scorers with 11 points.   Addy Tremie snagged 5 rebounds for the Ladies.

Men

BPCC Cavaliers (9-7, 4-4) lone game was on the road in Carthage, TX taking on the Panola College Ponies.  The Cavs came up short 83-74 in the conference matchup.  The Cavs were led by Jaeden Marshall with 19 points.   Kendrick Delahoussaye bucketed 12 for the Cavaliers.  Adrian Walker was the third Cavalier in double-digits with 11 points.  Kamryn Guidry was the top rebounder with 6.  Christian Caldwell and Derick Hamilton helped grab opportunities for possession with 5 rebounds each.  Jeremy Richard helped put the points on the scoreboard with 6 assists.

If you thought the LSUS Lady Pilots streak was impressive against Jarvis Christian,  you have seen the 23 game winning streak the Pilots have on the Bulldogs that began in 2011.   LSUS Pilots (8-5, 1-0) eeked out the 5-point victory on the road against the Bulldogs.  Leondre Washington led the Pilots with 29 points.  Akeem White came off the bench to pull in the double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds.   Royce Hunter followed with 16 points and 9 rebounds.  Kevin Norman crashed the boards for 7 rebounds.   Just like the Lady Pilots, the matchup with Texas College in Tyler, TX was postponed.

Centenary Gents (8-6, 3-3) needed a little taste of home to get them back on track.  The Gents had lost back-to-back games on the road to Colorado College followed by the Sunday matchup with St. Thomas (TX) Celts.  On Sunday,  Seth Thomas was the top Gent scorer with 19 points and 8 rebounds.  Jarrell Taylor also added 14 points 6 rebounds.  AJ Hall contributed 11 points for Centenary.   Midweek was a different story for Centenary as they returned home.    A two-game homestand for Centenary on Wednesday and Saturday saw the Gents average 100 points in the two games.    Wednesday night against the Southwestern (TX) Pirates, saw four Gents reach double-digit scoring.   Hall had a collegiate career-high 34 points for Centenary.   Taylor popped the nets for 19 points and grabbed 6 rebounds.  Thomas gained some attention again with 12 points and 6 rebounds.  Jalen Behr netted 12 points.  Braeden Board grabbed 5 rebounds.    Saturday night against NCCAA (National Christian Collegiate Athletic Association)  Champion Christian Tigers, another Gent had a collegiate career-high night as Seth Thomas scored 25 points.   Kile Mingo came off the bench and shot 60% from the field including 4 for 6 from three-point land to score 16.  Hall had another double-digit scoring night with 10 points.  Jalen Behr grabbed second chance opportunities with 5 rebounds.
