Local teams try to get in the last few games before the Christmas break kicks in. Minden hosted the annual Holiday Classic which featured Gibsland-Coleman, Homer, and Calvary. Homer boys made their debut for the season because the starting five were on the football field winning a state championship. The Pels started the season on an emotional game with the Lakeside player and coach being ejected. Gibsland-Coleman suffered a smaller roster for the tournament on both the boys and girls. The Lady Bulldogs finished as runner-up in the tourney. Samora Sampson and Ke’Honestly Williams we’re acknowledged on the all-tournament team.
Calvary girls ran into the champions on the first round but worked their way to consolation finals and fell to Simsboro. Calvary boys had some career accomplishments during the tournament as Labree Williams crossed the 1000 point mark. Calvary boys exited the tournament in the semis with a loss to West Monroe.
Homer girl and boys also exited the semis.
Down in Bienville Parish, Castor hosted their tourney featuring local teams Haynesville and Glenbrook. Castor boys and girls both swept their two games. Jamarion Clark capped the tournament with a 31 point performance against Glenbrook. Glenbrook finished 1-1 on both teams with a win over Haynesville.
Lincoln Prep boys split the week taking two of three in the Rayville tournament but dropping a close on earlier in the week to Jonesboro-Hodge.
Doyline Panthers and Lady Panthers won the Battle of the Paddle against Lakeside for the second year placing it in the trophy case. Despite a 30-plus performance by Jamari Markray against Converse, the Panthers dropped their first game of the season.
Providence took their first district win of the season over Franklin. Bowman Lovell dropped 18 points for the win.
Saline Lady Bobcats gave their record a huge boost going 3-0 for the week with strong performances from Georgia Robinson and Alana Gray. The Lady Bobcats started the week with a buzzer-beater made by Robinson over Simsboro. Robinson followed with a 25 point performance against Ringgold. Gray closed out the week with a 22 point game against Choudrant.
Christmas vacation around the area doesn’t mean gyms will be closed. Not as much action but look to some Christmas week games.
