The Doyline Panthers and Lady Panthers you could say were not good hosts as they took the crown in the newly named Red River Chevy Jimmy Stewart Memorial Tournament.  The Lady Panthers took wins over Ringgold (Thursday), North Webster (Friday), and Haynesville (Saturday).  Layla Baker had two 20-plus performances over the weekend.   The boys’ tournament was a round-robin and the Saturday night game against North Webster determined the trophy grab.   Jamari Markray and Jamaria Clark scored over 100 points in the 5 games over the week.  Markray took a week high of 32 points against Stanley on Monday night.  Clark scored 27 twice over the week against Stanly and in the tournament against North Desoto.  The Panthers have now moved to 12-0 for the season.

Providence Knights went 2-0 for the week with wins over Word of God and Mt. Olive.  Bowman Lovell had the big performance of the week for the Knights with 24 points.  Daniel West also had double digits with 13 points.

Saline Bobcats took home another runner-up crown in Cedar Creek.  The Bobcats’ Ethan Roberts had a 13 point top-scoring performance against the host team on Thursday night.  Despite having Roberts, Titus Malone, and Titus Jackson all finishing with double digits, Saline fell victim to 16-0 Calvin.  This was Saline’s third time to face the Cougars this season.

Lincoln Prep traveled down to Lake Charles to compete in the LaGrange tournament and won the opening game against Texas team West Orange-Stark and fell against the host Gators.  The Panthers did have two earlier week wins over Saline and Bastrop to finish 3-1 for the week.  Dmitri Payne had a big 27 points against Saline.

Gibsland-Coleman Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs finished the week playing a single game in the Southwood tournament in Shreveport.   The Bulldogs took a win over 5A Byrd.  Terrance James dropped 23 against the Yellow Jackets.  It was his second 20-plus games as he scored 32 in their loss to Arcadia.  The Lady Bulldogs didn’t have such a kind trip as they dropped their first game of the season to Rayville.  Samora Sampson finished with 25.  Ke’Honesty Williams netted 13.

Summerfield Lady Rebels had a strong week with a 2-1 finish and also competing in the Alexandria Tournament.  Malaysia Tate bucketed 34 in a double-overtime win over Weston.  Tate also scored 18 against Menard.  Alaysia Combs showed out in the CENLA area scoring 16 against Avoyelles Charter and 15 against Menard.

The annual Minden Holiday Classic will feature several local teams this coming week including the debut of the Homer Pelicans boy team fresh off a football state championship.  According to head coach LaFrance Cooper, the five starters were all on the football field.  Also playing this week will be the Homer Lady Pels, Calvary boys and girls, Gibsland-Coleman boys and girls.  Down in Bienville Parish, Castor will host their second tournament in three weeks.   Castor, Haynesville, and Glenbrook will be participating in the round-robin tourney.   Arcadia will compete in the Ruston tournament.  Lincoln Prep boys will head east to participate in the Rayville tourney   Summerfield Lady Rebels will make the longest trip of the week as they will head towards the Baton Rouge area to compete in the Walker Tournament.

Another key games next week, it’s the Battle for the Paddle between Lakeside and Doyline on Monday night.   Providence will have their first district game against Franklin on Tuesday night.   Two powerhouse teams in Shreveport will meet up on Tuesday night as Calvary and Woodlawn square off.
