The Christmas break kicked off last week but some schools, mainly Class A schools, played the first week of the two-week holiday. No tournaments were early in the week but some games to sneak in before Santa slid down the chimneys.
Calvary boys took an early week win over Parkway. Martin McDowell hit his career 1000th point as a Cavalier in the game. Labree Williams dropped 20 points in the win over the 5A Panthers.
Lincoln Prep split the week with a win over Arcadia on Tuesday night. Braylen Mayfield netted 21 in the win. Dimitry Payne added 12 over the Hornets. The Panthers weren’t so fortunate on Wednesday as Neville handed them a loss. Payne scored 24 for the Panthers.
Gibsland-Coleman had a special night on Thursday night against Arcadia. The school honored former player Bernard King. King led the Bulldogs to a state championship in 1999. King went on to play at Texas A & M leaving as the Big 12 top scorer in history at the time. King has played all over Europe. The Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs gave the packed house a show against Arcadia. Samora Sampson put up a massive 38 points against the Hornets. Arrianna Williams contributed 16. On the Lady Hornets side, Jae Haulcy scored 13 DeAsia Alexander netted 10. The Bulldogs didn’t disappoint for the night with a win over Arcadia. Dontarious Coleman led GCHS with 17. Deavery Durham added 16. Terrance James contributed 14. Joshua Adams added 10. The Hornets’ lead scorer was Javion Abney with 22 points including three third quarter 3-pointers. The Lady Bulldogs ventured on their own to take on Ruston early in the week but came up short. Sampson led the Lady Bulldogs with 18 points. Ke’Honesty Williams scored 11.
Summerfield girls were the hot team of the week rounding out both wins. The Lady Rebels were powered by Malaysia Tate who scored 25 against Glenbrook and 24 against Delhi.
Next week will be a light week for action. Gibsland (girls), Homer (girls), Haynesville (girls), and Plain Dealing (boys and girls) will be competing in the Doc Edwards Memorial Tournament. Calvary boys will be heading to Pine Bluff, AR to play in the King’s Cotton national tourney. Lincoln Prep will head east to play in the Caldwell tournament. Saline will be hosting their 2021 William Britt Holiday Classic featuring Ruston, Calvin, Red River, Jonesboro-Hodge, Parkway, Atlanta, and Saline.
A few sundry games will be played also next week like Castor v Glenbrook and Homer v. Evangel.
