The sun is starting to set on the LHSAA football regular season and playoffs on the horizon.   District 1-A now has four teams receiving votes in the LSWA weekly football Class A poll.   Calvary remained at No. 2 for a second week after taking control of the District 1-A standings with the win over Homer.   The Cavalier also received two first-place votes in the poll.   Homer got as high as No. 4 last week, but the loss to Calvary bumped them back two notches to No. 6.   Haynesville dropped out of the top ten with their loss to Glenbrook but are only two votes away from No. 10.  They are tied at No. 11 with Vermilion Catholic.   In their first year in the LHSAA and one of the biggest upsets of the season last week,  Glenbrook received a single vote in the polls last week.    Here is a preview of the Week 7 action

Magnolia School of Excellence Mariners (1-5, 1-4) at Calvary Cavaliers (5-1, 4-0)   THURSDAY NIGHT GAME

The first-place Calvary Cavaliers will have a Thursday night matchup between the two District 1-A Shreveport schools at Jerry Barker Stadium.  Calvary Landry Lyddy currently is leading the state with 2022 yards passing and 23 touchdown passes.   Aubrey Hermes is the No. 4 receiver in the state with 773 yards and 9 touchdowns.   Magnolia is still a team that has growing pains with their third coach in three years.   The Mariners do have some quality players in Me’Ciah Butler, Justin Moore,  Jermias Duncan, and Mark McCray.   It’s going to be a long night for the Mariners on the road trip.

Arcadia Hornets (1-5, 1-4) at Haynesville Golden Tornado (4-2, 3-1)

You’ve got the classic match of a team coming in on a season-high and another team coming in off of a season-low.   Arcadia finally broke their losing streak last week with a blowout of Magnolia at home.  They proved that they can score as the Hornets put up 70 points last week.  Haynesville is coming with the shocking loss to Glenbrook at home last week.   They may take their frustrations out against Arcadia.  The two teams are both ground attack games on offense and Haynesville should have the advantage due to the stronger defense.   Arcadia has been a thorn in Haynesville side in the past and the games have been closer than they should have been.   Haynesville will have to contain Markecion Carr to get the win.   Arcadia will have to work on more weapons of Toby Franklin and J’Karius Turner.   Haynesville should be able to win this game but they will have to make sure their focus is on Arcadia and not Week 8 opponent Calvary and the Claiborne Parish Super Bowl in Week 10 with Homer.

Plain Dealing Lions (2-4, 2-2)  at Glenbrook Apaches (4-2, 3-2)

The Apaches will return home with their heads high after the win at Haynesville from last week.   The problem that they will have to watch is to bring their heads out of the clouds and focus on the 19-strong Plain Dealing Lions.   The Lions finally broke their scoring drought last weekend piling on 38 points against Ringgold.   The Lions will have to deal with the air attack from Glenbrook behind quarterback Ty Feaster and receiving core of Turner McClelland and DJ Carter.   The Apache defense will have to contain Carnez Hillmon and Ar’drevious Washington-Carper to be successful.  Plain Dealing is fighting to try to stay in the mix for a home playoff game.   Don’t think because Glenbrook is not eligible for playoffs this season that they will roll over,  this win will put their season at .500 and one game away with three more to go on a winning season.

Homer Pelicans (4-2, 4-1) at Lincoln Prep Panthers (4-2, 2-2)   THURSDAY NIGHT GAME @ JONESBORO-HODGE

The Homer Pelicans are coming off the district loss at Calvary from last week.   Lincoln Prep spoiled the homecoming game for the Lakeside Warrior last Friday night.   Don’t think the Pelicans will be coming off licking their wounds and roll over to the Panthers.   The Panthers’ defense will have to hold back Takeviuante Kidd and targets like Jamarquese Hampton.  The Pels are bringing a veteran team that should bring the victory.  Once again, Lincoln Prep cannot be a team to be overlooked.  Ty’rell Simmons and Chauncey Harper can be a deadly combination for the Panthers.   Should be a high-scoring affair in Jackson Parish.

Ringgold Redskins (0-6) at North Caddo Titans (5-1)

Ringgold is heading to Vivian and is looking at a stellar team in North Caddo.  North Caddo has LSU commit Omarion Miller at wide receiver.   The Titans have a potent offense that is averaging 42.6 points per game.   Ringgold has shown signs of improvement in the past few weeks with Keesean Johnson that has been moved to a wide receiver.   Johnson has had back to back 100+ yards of offense.   Ringgold is looking on the up and up but not going to be enough against this Titan offensive juggernaut.

PLAYOFF PREDICTIONS

With the last four weeks coming up will be time to look at the playoff picture in Division IV.  Due to LHSAA first-year stipulations, Glenbrook will not be eligible for playoff this season.  The following predictions are for the home/away first-round game as of the end of Week 6.
