THURSDAY, AUGUST 17
Louisiana Tech 3, Colorado College 1
The Bulldogs are on a road trip in the Denver, Colorado area and the first test of the season was against Colorado College Tigers. Louisiana Tech struck early as Laura Ogando nailed the first goal of the season in the 11th minute. Loyola-alum Kali Matlock is credited with the first Bulldog assist of the season. Louisiana Tech took a 1-0 lead into halftime. Former Shreveport United player Laura Egbuloniu scored in the 51st minute with an assist from Carmen Suarez. Colorado College closed the gap just five minutes later to 2-1. Sophie Fijneman gave the Bulldogs a late insurance goal in the 88th minute to secure the 3-1 win.
Colorado College outshot Louisiana Tech 18-10 while firing 12-5 in the second half. Suarez, Egbuloniu, and Fijneman each had 2 shots. Laerke Holst had 4 saves in the win.
Louisiana Tech (1-0-0) will face Colorado State on Sunday afternoon before returning to Ruston.
FRIDAY, AUGUST 18
Grambling 2, Murray State 0
The Tigers took a road trip to the Blue Grass state and grabbed a 2-0 win over the Murray State Racers. Monmouth transfer Kayla Reed scored the first Grambling goal of the season in the first ten minutes of the match. Karlyn Judge was credited with the assist. Grambling (1-0-0) held on to the 1-0 lead at halftime. Samantha Diaz added another goal for the Tigers in the 62nd minute. Grambling maintained the 2-0 lead for the win.
Grambling outshot Murray State 9-7. Diaz had the most shots for Grambling with 3. Madison Covey Taylor and Aimee Benton split time as goalkeepers. Benton had 3 saves while Covey-Taylor had 1 save.
SATURDAY, AUGUST 19
LSUS 4, Texas Wesleyan 1 (Women)
LSUS showed up to Texas Wesleyan and showed they were not a team to be played with as they scored three goals in the first ten minutes. Ksenjia Pavlovic scored in the 2nd minute giving the Lady Pilots an early 1-0 lead. Alba Martinez struck just four minutes later and pushed the lead to 2-0. Dawniella Torres hit the third goal in the first 10 minutes with a shot in the 8th minute. Chelsea Brown was given the assist. LSUS took the 3-0 lead into halftime. Torres added a second goal in the second half in the 57th minute with Brown picking up her second assist. Texas Wesleyan stopped the shutout with a late goal in the 87th minute. The Lady Pilots hold on to the 4-1 win.
LSUS outshot Texas Wesleyan 12-10. Chelsea Brown had the most shot for LSUS with 4. Karina Correa took the win as goalie and shared time with Carlota Alcaide. Correa had 1 save. Alcaide had 2.
LSUS 2, Texas Wesleyan 1 (Men)
The Rams weren’t the best host as they took the first goal of the match in the 26th minute. The Pilots weren’t giving them the glory heading into the locker room as Adam Gonzalez connected with a goal in the closing minutes of the first half. The two teams were locked in at 1-1 at halftime. Jake Strachan broke the stalemate in the 62nd minute to give LSUS the 2-1 lead and hold on for the first win of the season.
LSUS outshot Texas Wesleyan 13-5 and only allowed one shot in the second half. Alex Golder took the most opportunities with 4 shots. Kyle Mcleish took the win and grabbed one save.
SUNDAY, AUGUST 20
Colorado State 3, Louisiana Tech 0
The Bulldogs continued their road trip in Colorado with a quick trip to Fort Collins against the Colorado State Rams. The Rams hit the first goal in the 5th minute with a goal from Katy Coffin. Louisiana Tech’s defense stopped any further in the first half. The Rams held on to a 1-0 lead at halftime. Coffins took a second goal in the 63rd minute to push the lead to 2-0. Colorado State took another insurance goal in the 70th minute by Olivia Fout.
Colorado State took 18 shots to Louisiana Tech’s 7. Colorado State had 9 shots on goal to the Bulldogs 1. Emma Jones had the most shots for Louisiana Tech with 2. Laerke Holst had 6 saves.
Southeast Missouri State 4, Grambling 1
The Midwest run for the Tigers ran into a snag on an ESPN+ televised game on Sunday morning. The Redhawks and the Tigers each had a goal dismissed in the first half. Redhawk’s Cayla Koerner scored first in the 39th minute as they carried a 1-0 lead into halftime. Southeast Missouri State hit early in the second half scoring in the 47th minute with a goal from Kiana Khedoo. Emily Baker added a third goal for the Redhawks in the 69th minute off a penalty kick. Grambling stopped the shutout in the 89th minute with a goal from Sophia Lezizidis and an assist from Samantha Diaz. The celebration was short as Megan Heisserer scored a final goal for the Redhawks and the 4-1 win.
SEMO outshout the Tigers 8 to 5. Lezizidis had the most shots for Grambling with 2. Once again the Tigers split duty in the goal as Aimee Benton had the only save.
North Texas 3, Northwestern State 0
The Lady Demons had a rough first road trip as they fell 3-0 to North Texas in Denton, Texas. North Texas struck in the first 20 minutes. Kat Burnell scored in the 11th minute and Bailey Wesco scored in the 15th minute. North Texas led 2-0 at halftime. Summer Brown added one more goal for North Texas in the 56th minute for the 3-0 win.
North Texas outshot Northwestern State 22 to 4. North Texas took 16 shots in the first half to a single shot by the Lady Demons. North Texas also had 11 corners to Northwestern State’s 1. Halee Griffin had the most shots for NSU with 2. Libe Banuelos collected 5 saves for the Lady Demons.
