The time is called the second season and it has begun and some local teams have found success in the first round.  One of the first round matchups had a local flavir among district rivals.  Boys and girls teams from Calvary, Loyola, and North Caddo all qualified for the playoffs.  

GIRLS

No. 2 Loyola 8, No. 31 North Caddo 0

Unfortunately only District 1 team could advance in the Division IV playoffs.  Grace Weiford and Kennedy Kerr each had two goals in the win.  Maggie Googe, Caroline Walls, Ainsley Matlock, and Ella Poole all had a goal each.  Carmen Gaitan collected two assists.  Matlock, Maddie Crawford, Grace Shepherd, and Sloane Kerr each had an assist. 

Loyola Lady Flyers (14-5-3) will hosts Acadiana Renaissance Charter (15-7-1) at 4 pm at Messmer Stadium.  

No. 14 Calvary 2, No. 19 Metairie Park Country Day 0

The Lady Cavaliers had not won a playoff match since 2014 when they defeated Benton 2-1 in the Division II playoffs.  That streak is now over as the Lady Cavs knocked out Metairie Park Country Day behind two goals from Jaeden Lee.  Megan McDowell gained the assists.   

Calvary (10-6-1) will have to go on the road to take on No. 3 Isidore Newman (13-4-2) in the second round

BOYS

No. 6  Loyola 5, No. 27 Westminster Christian 0

The Flyers (15-5-2) fueled by a hat trick from Graham Kyle advanced to the second round with a shutout of Westminster Christian (3-12-1) at Messmer field.  Freshmen Holt Hamilton and Aaron Gonzalez also added goals for the win.   

Loyola will host Ouachita Christian (12-4-1) on Wednesday night at 7 pm at Messmer field.  

No. 18 Calvary 3, No. 15 Rapides 1

Calvary (10-6-1) pulled the slight upset on the road with a 3-1 win over Rapides (10-5-2).  Ty Knight popped two goal for the Cavaliers in the win.   Eli Stuart captured the other goal.    Cole Miller was credited with two assists.  Davis Merry also gained an assists.

Calvary will get a home matchup after the upset win and host No. 2 Episcopal of Acadiana (14-1-4) on Wednesday night at Jerry Barker Stadium at 6 pm.  

No. 1 Holy Savior Menard 8, No. 32 North Caddo 0

The North Caddo Titans  grabbed the last run of the 32-team field and had to travel to Alexandria and face the top-seeded Holy Savior Menard squad.   The Eagles were a little much for the Titans advancing on the 8-0 win.

Soccer fans please forgive me for getting behind in coverage of Calvary, Loyola, and North Caddo.  A lot has happened in the past few weeks as the season is winding down and getting into district play.   

Loyola’s Saniyah Simo has had a memorable few weeks as she collected two hat tricks in district wins over Calvary and Evangel.   Simo also committed to playing college soccer at Sewanee The University of the South.  

Loyola’s Ella Poole had a multiple goal night in the district win over Evangel.   Maggie Googe collected three assists in the same match.  

North Caddo’s Izzy Dial pulled off her own hat trick in a win over Wossman.  Camila Tems added two goals in the win over Wossman.  Dial added another goal in a win over Southwood.  Teammate Maddie Triplett scored two goals in the same Southwood match.  

On the boys side, Calvary’s Cole Miller scored both goals in the tie with district rival Evangel.  Akram Sofyam had a goal and three assists in the win over St. Frederick for the Cavaliers.

scorers for Loyola and Calvary.  I guess the shout out should go to Maddux Lyddy for the clean sheet against Ruston.

The Calvary and Loyola boys played in the week long Airline Tournament at M.D. Ray field last week.   Calvary finished 2-1 for the week while Loyola finished 1-2.   Loyola (9-4-2) struggled to score in their first two matches but opened up in the final match and grabbed a win over Minden.  Calvary (4-3-0) snagged wins over West Ouachita and Parkway.  

North Caddo (0-10-0) is still looking for that first win of the season but did break their two game scoring sheet as they netted one against Huntington.  The Titans headed down to Alexandria and competed against Buckeye in the Rapides tournament. 

Loyola (8-1-2) continued to pile in the goals as they accumulated 15 goals for the week.  The Lady Flyers winning streak came to a halt on Saturday with a 0-0 tie against Teurlings Catholic.  They have not had a loss since the first match of the season.   

Calvary (4-4-0) only had one match for the week and came up short against Benton. The loss snapped the Lady Cavalier three match winning streak. 

North Caddo (2-11-0) broke their 11 game slide as they won 7-2 over Huntington on senior night.   The Titans had a hat trick from Izzy Dial to push for the week.  

Izzy Dial from North Caddo and Ella Poole will share the top performer of the week for the girls as both players pulled off a hat trick.  Dial completed the hat trick in the Huntington match.  Poole got her hat trick in the match against Natchitoches-Central.

It’s been a light week of soccer action for the girls with only two matches on the slate.     Boys a little bit more.  North Caddo boys are taking a week, but the Lady Titans competed in the Captain Shreve tournament.    

With the light action for the week, we have a tie for three girls with top performances,  Ainsley Matlock netted two goals.  Calvary’s Haeden Lee and Addison Stevenson botted added 2 goals in the MInden shutout.

Looked like the boys were only going to have one goal all week until Saturday afternoon.  Casey Wall pocketed two goals in the 4-0 shutout of Airline.   m

Week 3 for the local high soccer saw the Calvary Cavaliers (1-2-0)  boys team start their season in the Bossier Tournament.   The Cavaliers took wins over Union Parish and Minden but came up short over Northwood-SHV.   Loyola still had not suffered a loss as of the end of the week and were at 7-0-2 at the end of the week.    They had attempted to play in the Copa Acadiana but their game had been rained up but managed to wrangle a game against Fontainebleau.  North Caddo (0-7-0) competed in two tournaments over the weekend in both the Bossier tourney and the North Desoto tourney    

The Loyola Lady Flyers (5-1-1) continued their winning streak to 5 matches as they swept through the Copa Acadiana tournament in south Louisiana by the end of the week.   The Calvary Lady Cavaliers (3-3-0) burned up the nets last week scoring 13 goals in their games against Ruston and Minden.   North Caddo (1-6-0) competed in both the Bossier and North Desoto tournaments and looked to break their goal drought since the Southwood match.   

Top performances for both the boys and girls were Emily Cory from Calvary and Tyler Hornsby from Loyola.   Cory scored 5 goals including a hat trick in Haughton match.   Tyler Hornsby scored 4 goals for the week in the Ruston and Northwood-SHV matches.  Notable performance this week by Ainsley Matlock of Loyola picking up a hat trick in the Sterlington match and gaining another goal in the Copa Acadiana Tournament.   Casey Wall also scored in all three matches last week.

The second draft of the 2024-2026 redistricting plan was released by the LHSAA on Tuesday morning according to Geaux Preps.com.   The second round of planning showed the majority staying the same but a few slight changes.    

The final district plans for Cross Country for Division III,IV and V, boys golf for Division III and IV, girls golf Division II,  boys and girls soccer for Division III and IV, tennis Division III and IV, and volleyball for Division IV and V.   This means that these are set for approval by the Executive Board and will be the official district for 2024-26 once finalized. 

Class B & C local districts did not change.  

District 1-A and 3-A made a slight change moving Ringgold back to District 1-A from 3-A.    They will return with Haynesville, Homer, Glenbrook, Arcadia, Plain Dealing, Cedar Creek, and Lincoln Prep.  District 3-A will have Lakeview, LaSalle, Logansport, Montgomery, Northwood-Lena, and St. Mary’s

Class 2A locally had one change as Lakeside moved into District 3-2A with Winnfield, Many, Mansfield, and Red River.   District 1-2A will now be Calvary Baptist, D’Arbonne Woods, Green Oaks, Homer, Magnolia SOE, North Caddo, and Union Parish

Schools will now have until November 27 to make appeals about their place in the second draft of the districts. The third and final district committee meeting will be held on Wednesday, November 29.

Every two years the LHSAA realigns district and reclassifies each school.  The five-step process went into the second step last week with the release of the first draft of the new districting plan for sports.  

The first phase was the release of enrollment numbers was already completed.  Changes already occurred in this phase were the following

• Homer moved from 1A to 2A
• Magnolia SOE moved from 1A to 2A
• Jonesboro-Hodge moves from 2A to 1A
• Lakeview moves from 2A to 1A
• Loyola was slated to move from 2A to 3A.  Opts to move to 4A

The second phase was the release of the first districting plan.  The first classification meeting occurred.  Teams had the chance to request certain districts today at noon:  Here is the list of the Northwest Louisiana 2A-C districts.

These districts will be specifically for football, baseball, basketball, softball, and baseball.  Specialized sports will be at the end
