Better call Superintendent Chad McDowell and tell him to add a new trophy case to the budget as the Calvary Cavaliers Powerlifting Team captured state runner-up honors at LHSAA State Powerlifting Meet in Monroe on Thursday.   Calvary placed eight lifters on the podium.

State champions for the Cavaliers were Jordan Wallace (148), Joseph Wilson (198), and Johnathan Elie (SHW).  Jordan Wallace won the 148-division with a 455 squat, 235-bench, and 415 deadlifts.  Joseph Wilson’s path to the state championship was a little hair-raising.  Wallace out lifted Cedar Creek’s Riley Carson 500-490 on the squat.  Riley caught Wilson on the bench from 315 to 305.  The two were tied heading into the deadlift at 805 lbs.  Wilson successfully went for 460 on his second deadlift and Carson went 455 giving Wilson the five-pound lead.  Wilson’s attempt at 525 on his third attempt was not successful.  Carson went for 475 and the win but couldn’t pull it off giving Wilson the state championship.  Johnathan Elie won the SHW division by 85 pounds.  Elie lifted 540 squat, 380 bench, and 445 dead for a total of 1365 pounds.

Cavaliers winning State runner-ups were Roderick Harris (132), Dustin Lang (181), Jordan Byrd (242), and Parker Malone (275).

Landon Mayeaux finished third for the Cavaliers in the 220 division.

Ringgold lifter Tyrin Cunningham became the third Redskin lifter to grab gold.  Cunningham edged out Calvary’s Dustin Lang by 25 lbs to capture the crown.  Cunningham lifted 430 on the squat, 245 bench, and 460 on deadlift.

Congratulation to all the local lifters for their awards.
