Warriors Need Extra Time To End Mudbugs Season - Under The Radar - NW Louisiana

The Shreveport Mudbugs season ended on Friday night as the Oklahoma Warriors swept  at George’s Pond with a double overtime 2-1 win,   The Shreveport Mudbugs season ended as the top team in the NAHL scored with a Joey Delgreco goal with 13:15 remaining in the second extra frame.   The Mudbugs outshot Oklahoma 45-36 overall in the game.  Mudbug’s netminder Simon Bucheler had 34 saves before the 2500-plus in attendance.  Neither team scored on power play opportunities.  Shreveport was 0 for 2 on power plays while Oklahoma was 0 for 4.

Oklahoma gave the first power play opportunity to Shreveport in the first period as Blaise Miller was called for hooking.  The Warrior squashed the opportunity to keep the game scoreless.   Shreveport took the early lead in the first period as Logan Gotinsky scored almost halfway through the first period.  Garrett Steele and Logan Heroux were credited with the assists.  In the closing second of the first period, Matthew Danzinger was called for holding, giving Oklahoma a carry-over power play into the second period.  Shreveport led 1-0 after one period.  Oklahoma outshot Shreveport 13-12 in the first period. 

Shreveport survived the one man advantage for first 1:35 in the second period. Shreveport received another power play with 12 minutes remaining.  Oklahoma’s Drew Sutton scored the shorthanded goal to even the score at 1-1.  Tempers flared as Mudbug Liam Fleet and Oklahoma Cole Teleki came to fisticuffs and each getting a fighting call.  Fleet was called on head contact giving Oklahoma a power play.  The second period saw another brew haha as Max Dronen was called for slashing while Danzinger was called for roughing sending each to the sin bin.  The second period ended with the two teams knotted at 1-1.  Shreveport outshot Oklahoma 16-10.

Shreveport killed one more power play in regulation as Tristan Zarksy was called for slashing.  Neither team netted a goal as the Mudbugs extended their season to an extra time.  

A lot of defense in the third period as Oklahoma only outshot Shreveport 5-3. 

Shreveport had the only penalty in overtime but the Mudbugs survived it. No score and they headed to a second overtime.  Shreveport had the shot advantage 8-5. 

The hammer fell on the Mudbugs season with 13:15 remaining in the second overtime when Delgreco scored.  

Oklahoma Warriors will head to Blaine, Minnesota for the Robertson Cup Championship.  The Warriors will have a best two of three series with the Midwest Division champions Minnesota Wilderness.  The winner of the Minnesota and Oklahoma series will face the winner in Austin (MN) Black Bears and Maryland Black Bears sereis in a one game winner take all championship. 

The playoff run for the Mudbugs was the fourth in five seasons that they have reached the Southern Division finals.  Also, the Mudbugs continues to find success as they have made the playoffs every season in their six year history.
