Week 10 Preview

Homer (6-3, 4-1) vs. Haynesville (8-1, 4-1)

It’s the oldest rivalry in North Louisiana.   If you don’t know about it, you need to find out.   The Claiborne Parish Super Bowl will see two teams that are currently sitting with byes in the first round.   Homer is coming off a tough loss to Glenbrook for the District 1-A title.   Haynesville is on a five game win streak sincle losing to guess who…Glenbrook.  You can throw that past because between these two teams this is the only game matters and records are thrown out the door.   The last meeting between these two teams was for a trip to the Class A state championship.   Looking ahead to playoffs coming up, Haynesville will be fairly solid for a top four finish regardless of the win or loss and therefore give them a first round bye.  Homer might be on a little more shaky ground at No. 4.   A loss could force them to a first round matchup.  Logansport will more than likely not pass them up into the top four but will have to watch for Basille to overcome.    Either way, if you are picking a game to go watch, this might be the one to watch.

Calvary (7-2, 4-0) v. Loyola (5-3, 4-0)

The District 1-2A will be decided at Messmer field.   The resurgent Flyers put a stake for the district title last week by taking a home win over North Caddo last week.   Can the Messmer magic happen again against the cross town Cavaliers.   Calvary has the tools to grab yet another district.   Calvary will more than likely have a first round by regardless of the result of this game.  Loyola has a little more to look at.  The Flyers have district rival North Caddo breathing down their necks for that last bye slot in Division III select playoffs.

North Caddo (6-3, 2-2) v. D’Arbonne Woods (6-3, 2-2)

North Caddo is sitting at No. 9 so they will at least have a first round home playoff game, but they are within the grasp of a first round bye with Loyola sitting in that 8th spot.   The Timberwolves are currently at No. 15 which means they set for a home playoff game.    D’Arbonne Woods doesn’t want to risk that chance with a loss.  Although a loss will more than likely allow them to maintain the home game, but doesn’t want to put anything to chance.

Cedar Creek (6-3, 2-1) v. St. Frederick (6-2, 2-1) (Thursday)

These two teams are going for district runner-up with this matchup in District 2-A.  Playoff positioning is what the Cougars are facing in this one.  Cedar Creek has been hovering around that No. 16 spot for a few weeks.  The importance of this is that is the lowest position for a first round home playoff game.   Cedar Creek’s power ranking is currently 12.470 at No. 16.   Opelousas Catholic has 12.450 at No. 17.  A loss by the Cougars could send them on the road in the first round.
