Mansfield dominated the track world in North West Louisiana in Week 3.  The Wolverines and Lady Wolverines grabbed 13 medals in the 2023 Cane’s Many Tiger Invitational.  They also garnered 11 spots on the UTRNWLA Boys and Girls Gold and Silver Teams. They placed almost half as many second-place teams as Many and Simsboro.  

Simsboro and Many had performances not to shake a stick at.  Simsboro fueled by Ikeia Brown’s 3 medals claimed 6 medals in total in Ruston.  Many had a strong showing as host of their 2023 Cane’s Many Tiger Invitational.  The Tigers and Lady Tigers also collected six medals.  The two teams also tied for second place on the number of athletes that made the UTRNWLA Gold and Silver teams.

Harvey Simmons Relays (March 22)

The Lincoln Prep Panthers made its debut in Monroe at Richwood High School in the Harney Simmons Relays.  The only Lady Panther to make the podium was Shedreana Green who placed second in the shot put.  Her performance also allowed her to make an appearance on the UTRNWLA Silver team

Bearkat Relays (March 23)

The Bearkat Relays was held in Benton featuring 15 boys and girls teams from the Shreveport-Bossier area.  Benton boys and girls won the team competitions.  Haughton boys finished as runner-up and Parkway girls completed the meet as runner-up.  Six local teams competed.  

Haynesville walked away with six medals.  Alonzo Jackson racked up three third-place medals.  Jackson placed third in the 100 m run, 200 m run, and as part of the 4×200 relay team.  Other members of the team were Kamarion Penegar, J’Karius Turner, and DaMondra Martin.  Martin also placed third in the 400.  Isaiah Washington finished third in the triple jump.  Kahlia Washington placed runner-up in the girls’ high jump.  The boys 4×200 relay team and Khalia Washington each reached Gold Team.  

Loyola captured two medals at the relays.  Long distance runner Mark Henry captured the 1600 m run (4:59.50) title for the boys competition.  Henry’s win was enough to make the Gold Team for the week.  Emily Anderson finished runner-up in the 800m. Anderson along with fellow Flyer made Gold Team this week. 

Calvary’s Jackson Burney took two medals back to Linwood Road.  Burney won the 400m run (51.07 sec) and placed third as part of the 4 x 400 relay team.  Other members of the team were John Simon, Kolby Thomas, and Datravion Davis. 

Glenbrook’s Chase Sentell finished as runner-up in the 110 hurdles. 

Plain Dealing’s Brianna Newton hurled the shot put to a second place finish in Benton. Newton reached Silver Team status for the week.    

Lexi Bradley gave the Lakeside Lady Warriors a third place medal in the 1600m run. Bradley achieved Silver Team for the week

Cowboy Relays (March 23)

Across the river at Lee Hedges Stadium, Southwood High School hosted the Cowboy Relays.  Huntington Lady Raider won the girls competition and finished as runner-up innthe boys.  Captain Shreve boys track won the boys team competition.  Byrd Lady Jackets finished as runner-ups in the girls team competition.  Local team Green Oaks and Red River competed in the event. 

Green Oaks Giants boys track team took seven medals back to Cooper Road.  Corzavion Tucker win the sole first place medal for the Giants in the 110 hurdles (18.80 sec).  Jaylen Blake grabbed two individual medals concluding with a second in the 800 and third in the 400.  Joseph Carroll jumped the 300 hurdles for a third place finish.  Cortaveous Dorsey completed the triple jump with a third place finish.  The Giant 4 x 100 and 4 x 800 each grabbed bronze, but finished on the Gold Team among local competitors.  Jaylen Blake’s 800 m run garnered a spot on the Silver Team. 

Red River Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs reached the podium on three occasions.  Trenton Grigg won the javelin (137-6.7) competition.  Leonard Mosley finished third in the shot put.  Malaysia Davis also found success in the javelin on the girls side finishing in third.  Mosley’s shot put performance reach the Gold standard. Grigg’s javelin throw reached the Silver Team for the week.  

Reservation Relays – Tioga (March 23)

Lakeview’s Dillon Pike won both the long jump (21-09) and the triple jump (45-08) for the Gators.  The Lady Gators were represented with Trinity Browder winning the shot put (33-09).  Both Lakeview athletes made the Gold Team squad.  

2023 Cane’s Many Invitational (March 24)

The Cane’s Many Invitational featured over 15 schools including five local teams.  The boys team competition was won by Natchitoches-Central and runner-up was Pineville. On the girl’s side, Leesville captures the crown while Holy Savior Menard finished as runner-up.  

Mansfield graced the podium for 13 events.  Isaac Jackson won the high jump (6-02) and finished second in the long jump.  Nick Bailey was runner-up in the high jump and third in the 300m hurdles.  Jaden Youngblood blazed the course to another gold medal in the 300m hurdles.  Nick Davis won the 400m (50.30 sec) run.  Kalvin Jackson finished third in the 100.  Cleveland Wells completed the 200 in third place.  The Wolverine boys 4 x 200 also finished third.  Isaac Jackson made an appearance on both the Gold and Silver Team this week.  Jaden Youngblood and Nick Davis had performances that related to the Gold Team.  Nick Bailey, Cleveland Wells, and Nick Bailey each made the Silver Team.  The boys 4 x 200 relay scored a Silver Team. La’TyKeyunna Sicks captured the 100m (12.63 sec) gold once again.  Kaitlynn McDaniel won the diacus (105-05).  The Lady Wolverines 4 x 200 (1:49.27) relay topped all others.  Shasmin Norris finished third in the high jump.  All three Lady Wolverine performances reached Gold Team status.  

The host Many Tigers took six medals.  Isaac Sweet took two medals.  Sweet won the 100 hurdles (16.39 sec) and completed the 300 hurdles in second place.  Sean Mitcham took top honors in the triple jump (43-02.50). Jatlya Mitchell was the top discus (119-05) participant.  Joseph Yount won the javelin (159-09).  Isaac Sweet was selected to the Gold Team for his 110 hurdles and Silver Team for 300 hurdles.  Emily Miller gave the Lady Tigers a gold medal with her javelin throw (94-04).  Miller’s winning javelin throw landed her on the Silver Team for the week.  

Winnfield’s Manuel Espejel won two medals for the Tigers.  Espejel finished second in the discus and third in the shot put.  Ryan Davis finished second in the 110 hurdles.  Espejel’s shot put performance and Davis’ 110 hurdles reached the Silver Team.  Alazea McMiller won the triple jump (31-01) competition and landed on the Gold Team for the ladies. 

Jamarcus Jones gave the Logansport Tigers hy winning the 100m run (11.16 sec) and 200 m run (22.70).  Jakerrion Wilson added a third place medal in the long jump.  Both of Jones perfirmances reached the Gold Team for the week.  

Converse long distance star Abigail Bozeman snagged three medals for the Lady Cats.  Bozeman finished second in the 3200 run, third in the 1600m run, and third as a part of the 4 x 800 relay team.  Other members of the relay team was Gracie Garcie, Irene Dobbs, and Karley Rutherford.  Bozeman’s two individual awards reached the Gold Team for the week.  The 4 x 800 relay team grabbed a Silver Team slot. 

Melvin Stringer Relays – Scotlandville (March 24)

North Caddo Lady Titans headed to the Baton Rouge area to compete in the Melvin Stringer Relays.  Baleigh Kapler won the 1600 m run.  Victoria Deer finished behind Kapler in second in the 1600 run.  Ri’torion Vigne finished as runner-up in the 100m run.  Vigne’s 100 m run was enough to reach the Silver Team.

Hoss Garrett Relays 2023 – Ruston (March 25)

The Hoss Garrett Relays at the Ruston High Track featured teams from 15 from across Louisiana and Arkansas.  Ruston won both the boys and girls competions handily with over 30 point wins.  In the girls competition, Neville placed second.  In the boys, Airline took runner-up. 

Simsboro collected six medals in the meet.  Ikeia Brown claimed three medals.  Brown won the 100 hurdles (15.89 sec) and 300 hurdles (48.38 sec).  Brown also placed second in the high jump.  Vashanti Sproulls finished runner-up in the discus.  Lauryn Vernon placed third in the 200 m run.  Simsboro boys had one represented on the list. Gary Harris finished second on the discus.  Brown’s running hurdles earned who two spots on the Gold Team while the high jump was enough for the Silver Team.  Lauryn Vernon 200!m run was also enough for the Gold Team.  Vashanti Sproulls discus throw landed on the Silver Team for the week.  Gary Harris finished on the silver team for the week.  

Cedar Creek Lady Cougars captured four medals in Ruston.  Annie Jones won the javelin (102-05) competition.  The 4 x 800 relay team (10:50.34) races to a first place finish.  The 4 x 400 finished in second place. Julianne Ensminger took third in the 3200.  The two relay teams and Jones qualified for slots on the Gold Team.  Ensminger reached Silver Team on her 3200 run. 

Loyola’s Franklin Roemer scored a second place in the 800 m run.  Roemer’s run landed on the Gold Team for the week

Quitman’s Bryan Lay finished third in the pole vault.  Lay’s vault pushed him onto the Gold Team
