Two local players were chosen to play in the LHSCA East-West All-Star Basketball game at Louisiana College in Pineville on Saturday afternoon.   Daniel Ortiz from Calvary was chosen to represent the West Team for the boys game.  Jamya Jackson from Gibsland-Coleman was selected to. play for the East Team for the girls game.  The all-star game only features senior players

In the girls matchup, the West came roaring back in the second quarter and never looked back to 79-66 over the East.  Lady Bulldog Jamya Jackson played for about ten minutes and scored a free throw and yanked down a rebound.  Jackson was a key player for the Gibsland-Coleman Lady Bulldogs reaching the state semifinals in Class C this year. She also grabbed District 1-C Most Valuable Player for 2011.

On the boys side of the game, the West won the 105-103 shootout over the East.  Calvary’s Daniel Ortiz got his other teammates involved but still managed 5 points, 7 rebounds, 6 assists, and 3 steals. Ortiz was key in the Cavaliers reaching the state championship for the second consecutive years.

Ortiz has committed to North Alabama to continue playing basketball.  

Congratulations on these two senior ballplayers to get at least one more memory of their high school career
