The semi-pro soccer season is winding down and Shreveport United team is headed for the playoffs in the GCPL starting this Saturday, while Blue Goose finished last Saturday in Mississippi.

Shreveport United Get Ready for Semi-Finals in GCPL playoffs

Shreveport United will start their journey for a GCPL championship on Saturday night at Loyola’s Messmer Stadium at 7:00 pm.  They will face the No. 4 seed Hattiesburg FC in the semifinal match.  Shreveport United currently has an undefeated record at 7-0-1 and possesses the No. 1. overall seed.  This will be their first test against an Eastern Conference foe.  Hattiesburg (6-3-0) knocked out Cajun Rush 2-1 last week.  The winner will play the winner of the No. 3 Gaffa FC (6-3-0) at No. 2 Gulf Coast Rangers (7-0-1).  Gulf Coast had a bye like Shreveport United.   Gaffa FC overcame multiple lightning delays to eliminate the Central Texas Lobos.

If Shreveport wins the semifinal game, they will host the GCPL Championship at Messmer.

Blue Goose FC End Season With Loss In Mississippi

The inaugural season of the Shreveport-based Blue Goose FC came to an end with a 2-0 loss to Mississippi Brilla FC in Clinton, MS  on Saturday night.   Blue Goose finished in fifth place of six teams in the Mid-South Division with a 3-9-1 record.  There will not be a makeup for the final home match with Mississippi Brilla as the game will have no impact on the playoffs.  Brilla FC did their part and got the win they needed, but the West Virginia United 2-1 win eliminated Brilla from playoff contention.

Miguel Fernandez scored first in the 39th minute for Brilla with an assist from Marco Astorga scored to give them the early 1-0 lead. A second goal was scored right before the first half by Dom Gibson with an assist by Ocho Fasteen in the 45th minute.

Juri Schlingmann was the top scorer for Blue Goose with six goals for the year.
