The Shreveport Mavericks continue to stay atop the Central Division after wins over Dallas Skyline at home on Wednesday night, a revenge win over Sugar Land Imperials on Friday, and a road win over Beaumont Panthers on Saturday.    Although they are standing strong with a 17-3 record, they can’t seem to shake the defending TBL Champion Enid Outlaws who are tied atop with the same record.   The Mavericks are currently on a seven-game winning streak and currently, it looks as if a Saturday Night Fight is coming to the Gold Dome against the Enid Outlaws which possibly could determine the Central Division race.

Bernard Parks continues to be a dominant force for the Mavericks as he leads The Basketball League in 3-pointers made with 66, is currently second in the league with 2.7 average steals, eighth in the league in scoring average at 24.8 points per game.    Patrick Meyers is also making a statement in the league currently at seventh with 6.7 assists per game.

Here is the recap of this week’s games

Shreveport Mavericks 138, Dallas Skyline 117

The Mavericks got revenge for their last loss against the Dallas Skyline.    Shreveport extended the winning streak to five games.  The win keeps them in the race for first place with the Enid Outlaws at 15-3.   The 138 points were the fourth consecutive game that the Mavericks have scored over 130 points in a matchup.

In the 21-point victory,  Shreveport shot an impressing 14 for 32 from beyond the arc (42%).   The Mavericks’ defense took hold as they had 13 steals compared to the Skyline 3.   The previous five games between the two had been decided by 13 points or less.   This blowout could also be attributed to the points from turnovers.   Dallas had 23 turnovers and Shreveport put in 25 points from those turnovers.  Also, the Maverick bench scored 42 of their points for the night.

Tyrin Jordan and Paul Harrison tied for top scorers with 26 points for the Mavericks.   Jordan shot 9 for 13 (63%) from the field and grabbed 7 rebounds and helped with 8 assists. Harrison also had a hot night as he shot 11 for 18 with 61% shooting.    Also for the Mavericks,  captain Bernard Parks netted 22 points and grabbed 6 rebounds.   Patrick Meyers scored 14 points along with 6 assists.   Off the bench,  Tavin Cummings had a big night scoring 12 points and going 5 for 5 from the field.  Deandre Jackson rounded out the double-digit scorers with 10 points.

Just two minutes into the first period, Shreveport went on the attack quickly.   Paul Harrison’s layup followed by a Tyrin Jordan three kicked off a 14-4 run over Dallas and a 20-13 lead at 7:21 remaining in the first.  Dallas countered with a three of their own to cut to a four-point lead.   A Brantley score followed by a Brandon Parks kicked off another 5-0 run and Shreveport was up 25-16 in the next two minutes.  The Mavericks build their first-quarter lead up to 41-28 at the end of the first quarter.   Tyrin Jordan and Brandon Parks each had 8 points in the first quarter.

Shreveport with a little over nine minutes left got hot again and went on a 10-2 run behind back-to-back scores from Jordan.  Shreveport is up by 55-33 at that point.  The run ended with a three from Dallas.  Harrison countered with his own three.  The Skyline scratched another three in the books to try to get back into the game.  Not enough to hold back the scorching Mavericks.  The Mavericks kicked off another 7-0 run with another three from Harrison and four points from Brantley.  Shreveport was 65-40 with three minutes remaining in the half.  In the final minute, Dallas pieced together a small 5-0 run, and Shreveport came back stronger with an 8-0 run to close out the half.  The Mavericks took a 74-50 lead into the locker room.   Paul Harrison added 8 points in the second quarter for a total of 15 for the half.  Brandon Parks was at 11 points by the half.

Shreveport made sure they wanted to stay strong coming out of halftime.    The Mavericks kicked off a 17-4 run in the first six minutes of the third quarter.   Brandon Parks and Tyrin Jordan busted six points in the run.  The Mavericks had extended their lead to 36 points at 90-54.   The Skyline tried to chop down the lead below 30 throughout the third quarter, but Shreveport countered and kept the lead to the end of the third to 101-70.  Brandon Parks led the Mavericks in scoring with nine in the third quarter and 20 for the game.  Tyrin Jordan had reached 18 for the game.   Paul Harrison was at 17 by the end of the third.

Dallas did make a 17-4 run in the fourth quarter starting at 10:35 in the fourth and did get below the 30-point led to chopping down to 22 points.     Skyline’s Alexander Cooper scored 7 in that run.   The spark was a little too late to overcome the massive lead the Mavericks had already amassed.
