The first weekend of March brought along the beginning of the track season around the area. Local teams spread out across Northwest Louisiana to various track meets. Some highlights, Haynesville continued to be a juggernaut around the track and field area as they captured 33 medals for the North Webster Relays. The Golden Tornado also dominated slots on the new weekly Gold and Silver teams with 18 slots taken. Lakeside was next at 19 medals grabbed at the North Webster Relays. Simsboro’s Ikeia Brown went four for four on grabbing medals at the Cedar Creek High School Meet.
Here is a recap of the first week meets:
North Webster Relays (March 2)
Haynesville boys and girls dominated the North Webster Relays in Springhill. The Golden Tornado boys team won the meet with 177 points. The girls won with 161.50 points. The result was 33 medaling performances.
Alonzo Jackson grabbed three first place medals. Jackson won the 200 m (23.06), high jump (5-4), and as part of the 4 x100 relay (45.04). Other members of the 4×100 are Kamarion Penegar, Jayden Green, and J’KariusTurner. DaMondra Martin cooktop honors on 400 m (54.93). Martin also claimed a third place in the 4 x 200 along with Penegar, Green, and Turner. Isaiah Washington took home two first place medals in the 300 hurdles (45.96) and triple jump (40-5). Byruss Burns won the 110 hurdles (17.46) and placed third in the triple jump. Toby Franklin grabbed the crown in the shot put (42-11). Kemarion Ivory finshed in second in shot put. Zykerius Fielding finished runner-up in the 800 m and third as part of the 4 x 800 relay. Other members of the 4 x 800 were Dustin Mills, Henry Williams, and De’Jon Wesson. Mills also finished second in the 3200 run. Haynesville boys also took third in the 4 x 400. Kentavious Watts finished third in the discus. Yasin Meadors took third in javelin.
Lakeside boys finished third with 118 points. Brandon Bell won the 3200 (14:03.61). Connor Wood took top honors in the discus (107-1). Chad Davis claimed the javelin title (134-7). Jamarion Evans finished second in the javelin. Omera Urbina was runner-up and JaCoby Curry finished third in the 400 m run. The Warriors 4 x 400 won second. Tamarjah Ferrell was runner-up in the triple jump. Third place finishers were Luke Mandino (1600 m) and Jordan Case (pole vault).
Homer finished fifth in the meet with 63 points. Robtavious Monroe placed second in the 110 hurdles and as the 4 x 200 relay. Other members of the 4 x 200 were Elyjay Curry, Derron Donell, and Spencer Dunn. Dunn also took third in the long jump. Jarek Shelton finished in second in the long jump. Katrevick Banks finished runner-up in the 100 m run. Banks along with Shelton, Curry, and Gregory Williams finished third in the 4×100 relay. Williams placed third in the 200 m. Tymarrion Knowles grabbed silver in the javelin.
Plain Dealing finished with 40 points. Eli James was the only first place finisher in the boys with a title in the high jump (5-4). Reagan Foster claimed two medal with a second place finish in the 1600 m run and third in the 800 m run. Aaron Reddix finished third in the 100.
Haynesville girls dominated with a 161.50 points. Zyariah Mosi took three first place medals back to Claiborne Parish. She won the long jump (14-10), triple jump (29-11), and as part of the 4 x 200 (1:53.46). Other members of the 4 x 200 were Layla Tell, Tremaya Curry, and ZaNaiya Kingsby. Tell also won the javelin (88-2) and places second in the high jump. Curry was third in the long jump and a part of the second place 4 x 100 team. Other members were Kingsby, Arielle Modisette, and Khalia Washington. Kingsby along with the two relay medals won the 200 m (28.32). Khalia Washington also won the high jump (5-0) and second in the 100 hurdles. Alayna Tabor won two medals in the long running events. Tabor placed second in the 3200 and third in the 1600. Jameka Hicks took the crown in the discus throw (93-3).
Lakeside girls took nine medals back to Webster Parish. Madison McGraw was the only dual medal winner for the Lady Warriors. McGraw won the 3200 (18:39.00) and places third in the 800. McKenzie Chase took top honors in the pole vault (6-5). Iris Aquinaga claimed the 1600m (7:41.24) top prize. Jalacia Roberson was runner-up in the 300 hurdles. Other third place finishers were Kara Garcie (100 hurdles), Bailey Mangrum (300 hurdles), Krystal Cornelius (discus), and Aybrie Plunkett (javelin).
Homer took four medals back home. Jaliya Franklin took back two with a second place finish in the 400 and a third as part of the 4 x 200 repay team. Other members of the team were Cooper Jerlaysia, Tamia Kemp, and ShaMiyah McClain. Sha’Niyah Webb finished as runner-up in the javelin. Jacelyn Young took bronze in the shot put.
Brianna Newton gave the Plain Dealing Lady Lions two medals. Newton won the shot put (34-4.75) and second in the discus. Jakayla Douglass finished third in the high jump.
Benton Tiger Relays (March 2)
Loyola and Mansfield sent competitiors to the Benton Relays.
Mansfield’s Jayden Youngblood took top prize in the 110 hurdles (15.19).
Loyola’s 4 x 800 relay team finished as runner-up. Runners were Franklin Roemer, Mark Henry, Carter Ward and
Cedar Creek High School 2023 (March 3)
Ouachita Christian took home both team titles from Ruston at the Cedar Creek Relays 2023. The Eagles outlasted Ruston for the boys title. OCS won the girls division which was tightly contested with 99 points and holding off West Monroe and Ruston.
Quitman boys finished in sixth place with three third place finishes. Nathan Harvey finished third in the 110 hurdles. Bryan Lay finished in third in the pole vault. Sebastian Guin took bronze in the shot put.
The host boys team medals were won by Myles Carpenter head who took third in the 1600 m and 3200 m runs.
Simsboro girls with the help from Ikeia Brown placed fifth in the girls competition. Brown medalled in all four of her events. She won the 100 m (13.49 sec), 100 hurdles (16.38 sec), and 300 hurdles (51.13 sec). Lauryn Vernon took the crown in the triple jump (31-8).
The host Lady Cougars took three first place medals. Cara Beth Hill won the 400 (1:04.52). Ashlyn Bourn chucked the discus (94-5) for a gold medal. Annie Jones claimed the javelin (115-7) top prize. Jones also placed third in the high jump. The 4 x 400 relay team placed third.
Weston’s Jalexia Claridy carried two third place medals back to Jackson Parish in the discus and shot put.
Giant Relays 2023 (March 3)
Green Oaks hosted the Giant Relays on Friday evening. Captain Shreve won both the boys (232) and girls divisions (162) handily between the five girls teams and six boys teams.
Green Oaks boys finished second with 104 points. Joseph Carroll achieved three medals for the Giants winning the javelin (100-9), runner-up in the 300 hurdles, and third as part of the 4 x 400 teams. Other members of the 4 x 400 were Jaylen Blake, Jaylan Burks, and Jomariyion Collins. Blake also took three medals including the 4 x 400 back to Cooper Road. Blake also won the 400 m (53.54 sec) and was third in the 800. Burks also grabbed a second medal finishing third on the 4 x 200 relay team. Other members of the 4 x 200 team were Corzavion Tucker, Cortaveus Dorsey, and Drayden Thomas. Tucker won the 110 hurdles (18.61 sec) for the Giants. Dorsey also claimed a first place medal in the triple jump (40-8.5). Phillip Hayes and Cavon Foster finished second and third, respectively, in the discus competition. Ethan Robinson took third place in the long jump.
Green Oaks girls finished fifth in their meet. Ziya Washington took bronze in the 400 m run. The 4×200 relay team finished third. Members of the 4×200 were Aa’Leigha Callins, Va’Dejah Harris, Ty’riyunna Taylor, and Shaniyah Draper.
Deridder Dragon Relays (March 3)
The Many Tigers track teams headed down to Beauregard Parish to compete at the DeRider Dragon Relays. Barbe won the boys division with 175 points while Leesville claimed the girls division with 145 points.
Many Tigers boys team finished fifth with 49 point. Isaac Sweet showed out for the crowd claiming three first place medals. Sweet won the 110 hurdles (16.41 sec), 300 hurdles (42.92), and the long jump (20-0). Joseph Yount finished second in the javelin. Jaytyla Mitchell took third in the discus.
Many Lady Tigers had one medalist as Emily Miller finished third in the javelin.
C. E. Byrd Yellow Jacket Relays (March 4)
Loyola and Mansfield went to Lee Hedges Stadium on Saturday morning to the Yellow Jacket Relays.
Franklin Roemer claimed the only two first place medals for the flyers winning the 1600 m (4:43.09) and the 3200 m runs (10:21.72). Mark Henry finished third behind Roemer in the 1600. Cole Holburn placed third in the long jump. Clayton Craig finished third in the javelin. The 4 x800 relay team also finished with bronze.
Mansfield’s Jaden Youngblood took top honors in the 110 hurdles (14.47 sec). Nick Davis claimed the 200 m run (21.93). Isaac Jenking took two medals finishing second in the 400 m run and third in the high jump. The Wolverine 4 x 100 relay team took gold.
