The Shreveport Mudbugs are currently the hottest team in the NAHL. The Mudbugs have won six consecutive and 11 out of the last twelve. They currently hold the longest winning streak in the NAHL. How have they done it? How about 23 goals over the last four games. That’s an average of 5.75 goals per game. Shreveport has moved into third place and is threatening to close into second place where this coming weekend’s opponent the Oklahoma Warriors currently reside. The Warriors have a five-point lead on the Mudbugs in the South Division. A two-game sweep of the Warriors and Shreveport will be one point away from second place.
Mudbugs 5, El Paso 0
It took a period for the Mudbugs to start hitting on all cylinders as the two teams were scoreless in the first period Drake Morse broke the stalemate in the second period with help from Logan Heroux and Jaden Goldie on the power play. Shreveport added to the lead midway through the second period with a goal from Ryan Burke. Garrett Steele and Matthew Danzinger were credited with the assist. Shreveport had a 2-0 lead at the end of the second period. The Mudbugs went on a scoring frenzy in the last 10 minutes of the third period. Eric Vitale continued his points streak with a goal with help from Morse and goalie Simon Bucheler. A little over a minute later, Sutton Murray pushed the lead to 4-0. Hayden Nichol and Jake Mack were given the assists. Burke grabbed a second goal on a power play opportunity in the last 15 seconds with a second assist of the game from Steele and an assist from Maksim Sushchynski.
Shreveport doubled the number of shots over the Rhinos with a 41-20 advantage. Simon Bucheler got the win with 20 saves and the shutout. Bucheler improved his record to 13-4 and his fourth consecutive win.
Mudbugs 6, El Paso 1
The Mudbugs trusted their five-game win streak with new goalkeeper Nikola Golch. Golch got the goal support. A slow first period left the two teams scoreless for the second game in a row. The Mudbugs made up for the slow start in the first period with five goals in the second period. Logan Heroux started with back-to-back goals in the first four minutes. The first goal was a short-handed goal by Heroux with an assist from Drake Morse and Jaden Goldie Heroux struck again in the next minute and a half with help from Logan Gotinsky and Sutton Murray. El Paso scored their only goal of the series with a little over five minutes left in the second period. Logan Gotinsky pushed the lead back to 3-1 with help from Steele and Suchchynski. Under a minute later, Hayden Nichol found the back of the net with assists from Jake Mack and Matthew Danzinger. Eric Vitale pushed the points streak to 11 games with a power play goal Heroux and Morse was given the assists. Shreveport led 5-1 after two periods. Kason Muscutt added a third-period goal with help from Ryan Burke for the 6-1 win,
Shreveport once again outshot the Rhinos 40-15, and Golch got his first win of the season behind 14 saves.
The Mudbugs streak will be tested this weekend as the Oklahoma Warriors will come to town starting on Friday on Military night.
