Trace Morrow may be the lone Summerfield wrestler but his success keeps piling up the medals. He proved his point on Saturday as he travelled to Parkway High School in Bossier City and brought home a third place finish at the Northwest Louisiana Regional.

Morrow started with a first period fall against Lakeside’s Connor Wood. The semi-final match against Parkway’s Terrence Murray start with some quick takedowns by Murray in the first two periods. Morrow was down 4-2 after two periods. Murray then piled the points on in the third to send Morrow to the consolation bracket. Morrow made quick first period work on Bossier’s A’Tavius Williams. The Summerfield wrestler had to wait until the third period but a pin gave Morrow the third place finish.

“We did alright today,” Coach Chris Scroggs said. “It wasn’t exactly what we wanted but he finished strong with third place win. We got some mat time at 170. He’s made the cut down to 170 and just trying to get some mat time and see some different competition. “

This is the seventh medalling for the Summerfield wrestler. He won the Bauxite Miners championship in Little Rock at the beginning of the season. He’s placed third for a third time today. He took a runner-up recently down south at the Brusly Invitational and also had a host of high placings around the state. Not much of the competition that has beat him will meet him will be his opponents at LHSAA State Tournament in a couple weeks. “I think I’ll fair pretty well,” Morrow said. “I’ll probably be high up in the seeding. I’m confident I’ll go pretty far at state.”

This was the last roundup for Morrow before the LHSAA State Tournament in Bossier City in a couple of weeks. It will be a time to rest and get refreshed for the team.

Other local action saw a depleted Calvary Cavaliers teams bring three wrestlers. One had to exit due to getting sick during the tournament. The bright spot for the Cavs was Josh Purvis taking home 2nd place in the JV slated regional tournament. Purvis won by a second period pin over Luke Brunson from Caddo Magnet. Purvis fell to a quick first round pin to finish 1-1 in the round robin matchup.

Summerfield will be get some rest before the LHSAA State Tournament in Bossier City. Calvary will try their hand with one more tournament with Shreveport City Championship next Saturday at C.E. Byrd High School.
