The Shreveport Mavericks finally got the formula to get past the Potawatomi Fire on the fourth try and moved into first place.  The goal now is to maintain in the final two games of the TBL regular season to capture the top seed in the Central Conference playoffs.  The Mavericks (19-3) sit atop the conference by a game.  The only losses by the Mavericks this season come from Potawatomi and they are done with them for the season unless they meet in the playoffs.

Mavericks 121, Potawatomi 113

Neither team could get much of an edge until about five and a half minutes remaining.  Shreveport was down 17-15 to the Fire.  Tyronne Jordan popped a three to trigger a 10-0 run by the Mavericks,  Shreveport had jumped out to a 25-17 lead.  The Mavericks held the lead to the end of the first quarter 34-25.  

Shreveport maintained around the nine-point lead for the majority of the second period until about four and a half minutes left.  The Fire jumped on a 12-2 run late in the second period.  The run was pushed by Lyletacoma Hexom’s 6 points.  Potawatomi jumped to the 55-54 lead in the final minute of the second quarter.  Paul Parks gave the Mavericks back the lead at 56-55.  Hexom scored the final basket of the half to give the Fire the 57-56 halftime lead. 

The third period saw the Mavericks regain the lead to 63-60 on a 7-0 run pushed by JevonLeon Hedgeman’s five points.  The two teams stayed close until another 6-0 run led by a three from Hedgeman gave the Mavericks the 7-point gap at 71-64.  The Fire not to be outdone recaptured the lead on a 9-0 run of their own to regain the lead at 73-71.  Shreveport would regain the lead but Potawatomi wouldn’t go away.  The Mavericks finally put some distance between them and the Fire on one final 6-0 run to end the period up 85-79

Shreveport continued to maintain their lead throughout the fourth quarter but Potawatomi would cut the lead to as much as one point.   The Mavericks would finally catch a break with about five minutes left to go.  With the Fire closing in a 101-100.  Hedgeman would start another run with a laup.  Kadavion Evans nailed two free throws followed by another layup.   Tyrone Jordan would add two more free throws as the Fire were in foul mode to salvage the game. Shreveport had jumped up to a 109-100 lead. Shreveport would hold on to finally figure out the formula to put out the Fire. 

Kadavion Evans was the Mavericks’ top scorer with 31 points.  Paul Parks netted 23 points and added 6 rebounds.  JevonLean Hedgman strong second half added 21 points, 8 rebounds, and 5 steals.  Tyronne Jordan contribute 17 points.  Paul Meyers had a double-double with 15 points, 11 assists, and 7 rebounds.

The Shreveport Mavericks have two games remaining and they will both be at the Gold Dome.  The Mavericks will face the third place Wichita Skykings (17-5) on Sunday, May 21 at 3:30 pm.  The final regular season game will be against the Rockwall 76ers (4-16) on Friday, May 26 at 7:00 pm.
