The LSUS Pilots and Lady Pilots made trips to San Antonio to start the Red River Conference season.  Men’s soccer split the two games.  Women’s soccer starting 0-1-1.

Our Lady of the Lake 2, LSUS 0

The Lady Saints scored two second-half goals to push past LSUS for the conference win.  The Lady Pilots stayed close in the first half with OLLU as they were only outshot 5-2 in the first half.  The two teams were scoreless at the end of the first half.   Chelsea Brown and Alyssa Castillo’s shots both had to be saved.  Karolyn Hasler had four first-half saves.  

The second half was a different story though the Lady Saints fired 12 shots to LSUS one.  OLLU struck early in the second half as Kyleigh Spree-Kolos scored in the 47th minute.  Less than five minutes later Spree-Kolos struck again to give the Lady Saints the 2-0 lead.   Hassle made five more saves in the second half for a total of nine for the game.  Kristen Nolan took the lone shot for the Lady Pilots in the  60th minute.  Victoria Davis got the only yellow card with a rough tackle in the 77th minute. 

LSUS 0, Texas A & M – San Antonio 0 2OT

The Lady Pilots are looking for their first goal of the conference season but the Lady Jaguars’ defense escaped with a 0-0 tie.  LSUS outshot TAMSA 25-4 and Lady Jaguars goalie Maram Abdeljaber put up 14 saves.  Kirsten Nolan took the most shots from the Lady Pilots with 6 shots.  Abbie Rutledge took 5 shots.  Alexis Hobbs fired 3.  Chelsea Brown and Dawniella Torres each shot twice.  Ryleigh Smith, Alyssa Castillo, Charlotte Schmidt, and Gabriella de Jesus each took an opportunity.  Karolyn Hassler made 3 saves.  LSUS was charged with three yellow cards.  Aimee Dilworth receives the only yellow card in the first half.  Madison Salas received a second-half yellow.  Chelsea Brown was charged in overtime.

Our Lady of the Lake University 1, LSUS 0

The Saints snuck an early second-half goal past the Pilots to get the 1-0 RRAC conference win.  In the first half, LSUS couldn’t keep the referee whistle away as they were hit with five fouls in the first fifteen minutes.  Pilots goalie Louis Owens was challenged early with a shot in the 2nd minute.  LSUS looked to take control the next 15 minutes as Guilherme Pereria, Gledi Doda, and James Averies also had on-target shots that had to be saved.  The two teams ended the first half scoreless.  LSUS slightly outshot the OLLU 5-4 in the first half.  

The second half saw the stalemate broken in the 51st minute as Said Salas found the back of the net.  After the goal, LSUS once again found the ire of the referee.  Instead of fouls, yellow cards were flying.  Julius Williams and Simone Libreri were charged in the 57th and 58th minute.   OLLU’s Norberto Lira got in a couple of shots to be saved by Owens.  Fouls were called to the Saints as 4 fouls were called and 2 yellow cards came out again.  Maurice Theart, Abdoul Karim Pare, and Hugo Juliao took some last-chance opportunities but to no avail. 

LSUS outshot OLLU 11-8.  Louis Owens made four saves in the match.  Pare had the most opportunities with 4 shots. That took a couple of chances.  

LSUS 7, Texas A&M – San Antonio 0

The Pilots bounced back with a red hot second half where they scored six goals to take the massive conference win in San Antonio.  LSUS dominated the pitch outshooting the Jaguars 20-5 in the match.  

The Pilot com out of the gate shooting in the first half but a little off target.  Adam Gonzales’s shot went high as Arsenios Dimitrious and Guilherme Pereira shot were wide.  TAMSA’s aggressive defense was constantly getting charged with fouls and eventually three yellow cards in the first half.  LSUS defense also kept the ball away from the Jaguars as their only shot didn’t come until the 31st minute. TAMSA fouled inside the box to give the penalty kick opportunity in the closing seconds of the first half.   Aaron Ibe nailed it to send LSUS the 1-0 lead into halftime.  

The Jaguars tried to recoup the goal early in the second half with back-to-back corners and a shot in the first two minutes.  LSUS may have struggled to get on target in the first half but they found it in the second.  Maurice Theart pushed the lead to 2-0 with an assist by James Averies in the 53rd minute.  Liam Vivian got the third goal for Pilots with an assist by Pereira in the 58th minute.  TAMSA made multiple substitutions to stop the LSUS scoring express.  Gledi Doda struck next with an assist by Thomas Cobham to push the lead to 4-0 with a little 30 minutes remaining in regulation.  More subs came from the Jaguars.  The fifth goal came James Averies hit an unassisted goal in the 66th minute.  LSUS added goals by Abdoul Karim Pare and Scott Neil (assist by Hugo Juliao) to close out the win. 

The Pilots and Lady Pilots will return to The Swamp on Thursday afternoon against the University of Houston-Victoria.  Lady Pilots kick off at 1 pm.  Pilots are scheduled for 3:30.
