The LSUS Pilots and Lady Pilots headed to Texarkana on Saturday to take on Texas A&M – Texarkana Eagles and Lady Eagles.   

The Pilots took their third consecutive win.  Saturday was also the third consecutive win by three goals or more.    

The Lady Pilots continued to struggle and fell in overtime to the Lady Eagles fairly heated.  This was the fourth consecutive loss for the Lady Pilots.  It was another overtime loss and the second overtime match in three games.  This was the fifth overtime match for the season and their record in overtime games is 0-2-3.    Here are the results from Saturday’s matches

Texas A&M – Texarkana 3, LSU-Shreveport 2  OT

The Lady Eagles took control early taking a couple of shots and a corner kick in the first 7 minutes.   LSUS regained possession and a Gabriela de Jesus got in a couple of shots both were wide left.  TAMTU got another shot that required a save by LSUS goalkeeper Karolyn Hasler.   The Lady Eagles got one more shot in and then the referee whistle blew non-stop against LSUS.  In the span of 13 minutes, the Lady Pilots were called for seven fouls.   Texas A&M – Texarkana took opportunities during this time with shots and one to test Hasler.   The Lady Pilots brought in Kirsten Nolan, Dawniella Torres, and Gabriella Roa.   TAMTU got in a couple of more shots.  One final foul was called on the Lady Pilots in the 39th minute.   The Lady Eagles found the target in the 40th minute as Marta Gudino scored the lone goal of the first half.  Texas A&M -Texarkana outshot LSUS 9-2.  Hasler had five saves in the first half.  LSUS had eight fouls called in the first half to the Lady Eagles four.  

Just 18 seconds into the second half, Chayce Walker put the Lady Eagles up 2-0.   The referee whistle continued into the second half against the Lady Pilots.   Two more fouls against LSUS, but TAMTU had one called on them. TAMTU got three more shots in the next five minutes and only one on target.   Whistles turned to cards as LSUS’s Gabriela Roa was issued a yellow card.   Madison Salas managed a high shot in the 60th minute.   Gabriela Roa would close the gap to 2-1 as she scored in the 63rd minute.    Emotions remained high as another yellow card was issued to LSUS team.  Despite the turmoil,  Kirsten Nolan got a chance at a shot in the 66th minute.  LSUS was charged with two more fouls pushing their total to 12 just 70 minutes into the match.  LSUS started finding the target in the 73rd minute as Ameris Taylor’s shot required a save.  LSUS caught the Lady Eagles in the 75th minute with a goal by Kirsten Nolan.   LSUS brought in Dawniella Torres and Aimee Dillworto try to break the tie with fresh legs.  Dillworth got a quick shot but went wide.   TAMTU’s Amanda Acuna had a little too much contact with the refs and was issued a yellow card.   LSUS took control on their third and managed a corner kick.  Thirty seconds later, the  LSUS team received a red card for unsportsmanlike conduct and had to drop to 10 women for the final 12-plus minutes.  TAMTU only managed one shot in the final minutes to send the game to overtime.  

Still, down a person in overtime, LSUS put in the fight.   The Lady Eagles got a corner 23 seconds into overtime.   LSUS brought in Victoria Davis.  In the 96th minute, Lesly Macias scored to give the Lady Eagles the win.  Emotions ran high and LSUS was charged with another red card after the match was complete.  

LSUS managed to get eight shots in the match.  Gabriela de Jesus and Kirsten Nolan each had two shots.    LSUS in total was charged with 13 fouls to 7 fouls for TAMTU.  Karolyn Hasler had six saves for the Lady Pilots.   The Lady Pilots dropped to 10th in the RRAC standings.

LSU-Shreveport 4, Texas A&M – Texarkana 1

Julius Williams jumped on the Eagles fast as he fired three quick shots in the first fifteen minutes.  Two of those shots required a save from TAMTU.   Scott Neil also got in three early shots and Matt Roberts joined the fun with a header.   None of the first six shots in the first fifteen could cross the goal line.  The Eagles only shot in the first half came in the 14th minute by Meindart de Groot.  In the 17th minute, though,  Maurice Theart found the target and scored with an assist by Adam Gonzales and Scott Neil.   Two minutes later, Scott Neil scored giving the Pilots the 2-0 lead.   No other shots by either team after the 19th minute.  TAMTU received a yellow ticket on the 28th.   LSUS Cambell Young was given a yellow card in the 39th minute.  LSUS carried the 2-0 lead into the second half.   LSUS also outshot the Eagles 8-1.   LSUS also had 6 corners in the first half.  

The Eagles took control early in the second half.   TAMTU’s Diego Saldana took a shot that had to be saved by Max Rose.  LSUS snuck in a corner kick but the Eagles took back to their third.   TAMTU took back-to-back corner kicks.   The Eagles got another shot in by Dillon Williams.   Guilherme Pereria got his shot in that was saved.   In the 65th minute, Adam Gonzales widened the lead to 3-0 for the Pilots.   With the solid lead, LSUS started making several substitutions.   The Eagles got a score in the 81st minute with a goal by Austin Beck and an assist by Diego Salda.   More subs for LSUS.   Gonzales took his second goal and third point of the match in the 88th minute.  Hugo Juliao was credited with the assist.  LSUS held on for the 4-1 win.   Texas A & M – Texarkana outshot LSUS 6-3 in the second half.  

Scott Neil and Julius Williams each had three shots.   Adam Gonzales took two-shot and made two goals.  

Player of the Week Honors

For the third week in a row, an LSUS Pilot is awarded an RRAC Player of the Week honor.   Abdoul Pare was awarded the RRAC Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week award for October 4-10.  Pare took a hat trick in in the 5-1 over Louisiana College.  Pare has eight goals for the season.    Adam Gonzales also took home the RRAC Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week award for October 11-17.   Gonzales scored three goals for the week.  

Hugo Juliao was nominated for October 4-10 week.  Goalkeeper Max Rose was nominated for October 11-17. 

Lady Pilots that were nominated for October 4-10 were Alexis Hobbs and Ameris Taylor.   Goalkeeper Karolyn Hasler and Kirsten Nolan were nominated for the week of October 11-17.

LSUS Pilots Getting Votes in NAIA Top 25

After knocking off No. 11 Georgia Gwinnett last week, the LSUS Pilots Men’s Soccer team is getting noticed nationally and received 10 votes for the NAIA Top 25 Men’s Soccer Coaches Poll.    

The Pilots and Lady Pilots will be back on the road on Thursday to Tyler, TX to face Texas College Steers.   Both will start the end of the regular season with a three-match homestand at the Swamp on Saturday when Jarvis Christian College Bulldogs will come to Shreveport.
