The LSUS Pilots (11-6-1, 7-3-1) locked up a home match bid to the RRAC conference tournament this past weekend with their win over the University of Southwest and closed out the season with another win over Paul Quinn.  The two wins pushed the Pilots to seven games without a loss.  

LSUS Lady Pilots (6-8-3, 4-6-1) season ended this past season with yet another heartbreaking double-overtime loss to University of Southwest but ended the season on a senior day with a win over Paul Quinn.  The Lady Pilots finished in 8th place in the RRAC Conference and didn’t qualify for the tournament. Only the top six qualify.

The yellow cards were plentiful in the conference matchup between the Pilots and the Mustangs.  USW was charged with 6 yellow cards in the first half and LSUS was given 2.   USW was charged with two yellow cards in the first 10 minutes.  Adam Gonzales and Julius Williams managed to get shots off for the Pilots in the first 10 minutes.  The Mustangs struck first in the 11th minute with a goal from Matthew Alvarado.  The Pilots didn’t let them celebrate long as Scott Neil scored with an assist by Julius Williams to tie the match at 1-1.   The referee’s whistle got a workout as LSUS was called for three fouls and USW another two.  Three more yellow cards for the Mustangs in the next ten minutes.  With assists from Maurice Theart and Julius Williams, Adam Gonzales gave the lead to the Pilots in the 24th minute.  Martin Rasmussen, Gonzales, and Neil all tried to increase the lead.  Maurice Theart succeeded in the 38th minute to 3-1.  Matt Roberts was credited with the assist.   More yellow cards were given.  LSUS James Averies was given one.  Williams took two shots with one on target.  Theart struck again in the 42nd minute.  Roberts was given another assist.  One last yellow card was issued at the half to goalkeeper Louis Owens.   LSUS had a 4-1 lead in the first half.  LSUS outshot USW 16 to 5. 

First five minutes USW closed the gap to 4-2 with a second goal by Alvarado.  The fouls returned in the second half.  Three more by USW and another two by LSUS.  Gonzales was charged with a yellow card.  Gonzales fired two more shots on target.  Another yellow card emerged against LSUS to Rasmussen.  Gonzales scored a second goal of the match in the 64th minute.  Williams was given an assist.  LSUS held on for the 5-2 win.  

LSUS outshot 28-8.  The two teams combined for 30 fouls in the match.  USW was charged more with 17.  

Adam Gonzales took 8 shots and scored 2 goals in the win for the Pilots.  Julius Williams took 7 shots and was given 4 assists.  Maurice Theart took 4 shots scoring 2 goals and was given an assist.  Scott Neil shot four times and scored one goal.  Scott Neil fired two shots and scored a goal.  Matt Roberts was credited with 2 assists.  Gledi Doda took two shots.  Martin Rasmussen, Hunter Hulin, and Liam Vivian each took a shot. 

LSUS 2, Paul Quinn 0

LSUS closed out the regular season with a 2-0 win over Paul Quinn on senior day at The Swamp.  The Pilots came out firing with three shots from Maurice Theart.  The Tigers took their first shot in the 12th minute.  LSUS continued to pound the shots from Martin Rasmussen, Scott Neil, Julius Williams, Gledi Godi, and Liam Vivian were all on target but saved by the Tiger’s goalie Roberto Dominguez.  Paul Quinn got in three shots but no luck for the Tigers.  Scott Neil took a last shot for the half but went wide.   The two remained scoreless heading into the half.  LSUS outshot 9 to 4 in the first half.  

LSUS came out of the halftime shooting away.  Abdoul Karim Pare took two chances and Maurice Theart followed.  Some fresh legs by Hunter Hulin, Arsenios Dimitrious, Janis Fissi, and Scott Neil.  Liam Vivian and Pare took a wide shot each.  The Pilots finally broke the stalemate with a goal from James Averies.  LSUS continued to pound the Tigers’ goalie with shots from Pare, Hulin, Theart, Dimitrious, and Tom Cobham.  Aaron Ibe was charged with a yellow card.  Pare’s attempts finally paid off with an insurance goal with 47 seconds remaining and the Pilots held on for. A 2-0 win.  

LSUS pounded PQC with 22 shots to 5.  

Abdoul Karim Pare took 5 shots for 1 goal.  Maurice Theart also took 5 shots.  Scott Neil, Gledi Doda, and Liam Vivian each had two shots.  James Averies was 1 for 1 on shots to goals.  Tom Cobham, Julius Williams, Martin Rasmussen, and Hunter Hulin all got in one shot.

University of the Southwest 1, LSUS 0 (2 OT)

The Lady Pilots once again fell victim to a heartbreaking overtime loss.  This loss was even a more bitter pill to swallow as this loss eliminated them from qualifying for the end of the season RRAC conference tournament.  The matchup was the seventh overtime game of the season for the Lady Pilots.  They finished 1-3-3 in overtime games this season.  

A goal by Adriane Guzman for USW was the difference in the 104th minute.  

USW outshot LSUS 22-13 for the match.  

Ryleigh Smith got four opportunities at the goal.  Chelsea Brown had 2 shots on goal for 3 total shots.  Kirsten Nolan and Aimee Dillworth each took 2 shots.  Gabriela Roa and Charlotte Schmidt each got in a shot.  Karolyn Hasler had 11 saves.

The Lady Pilots ended their season on a high note by capturing a four-goal win on senior day.   

Joana Villanova scored the first goal of the match in the 1st minute.   Madison Salas picked up the assists on the goal.  Ryleigh Smith boosted the lead for LSUS to 2-0 in the 23rd minute.  An assist was given to. Aimee Dillworth.  The Lady Tigers tried to rein in the match with a goal in the 30th minute.  Kirsten Nolan brought the momentum back to the Lady Pilots in the 36th minute. Sofia Ahlstedt gained the assist.   LSUS took a 2-1 lead into halftime.  

LSUS continued to pile on the goals.   Madison Salas scored in the 54th minute.   Joana Villanova scored the first goal for LSUS and she finished with the last goal for the Lady Pilots in the 66th minute.   Ryleigh Smith was credited with the assist.  

LSUS outshot Paul Quinn College 24-5.  The Lady Tigers also had one shot on target in the match.  

Senior Joana Villanova, the Sao Paulo, Brazil native, shot 5 times with 4 on target and scored 2 goals in her final match as a Lady Pilot.  Chelsea Brown took four shots with two on target. Senior Ryleigh Smith scored a goal and gained an assist on her three shots in her final match.   Madison Salas shot twice and scored an unassisted goal and gained an assist.   Kirsten Nolan scored a goal off two shots.  Alyssa Castillo took shot attempts.  Sofia Ahlstedt took one shot and was credited with an assist.   Gabriella Roa, Ameris Taylor, Alexis Hobbs, Gabriela de Jesus, and Abbie Rutledge all took one shot.  

Player of The Week Honors

Pilot goalkeeper Max Rose was awarded the RRAC Defensive Player of the Week honor for October 25-31.  Rose only allowed two goals in the weekend matches against University of the Southwest and Paul Quinn. 

Another Pilot nominated for the same week was Maurice Theart.   

Karolyn Hassler and Joana Villanova were nominated for player of the week honors for October 25-31.  

Red River Athletic Conference Men’s Soccer Tournament

The LSUS Men’s Soccer team has qualified for the RRAC Men’s Soccer Tournament.  LSUS heads into the tournament as the No. 4 seed and will host No. 5 Southwest at The Swamp on Saturday, November 6 at 3 pm.    If the Pilots win, they will go to the semi-finals on Thursday, November 11 at Eagle Field at Texas A & M-Texarkana.  Their opponent will be determined based on the outcome of the No. 3 LSU Alexandria versus No. 6 Huston-Tillotson.  If LSUA wins,  they will face the No. 1 seed Houston-Victoria.   If Huston-Tillotson, they will face No. 2 Our Lady of the Lake.
