The LSUS Pilots Men’s soccer team advanced to the RRAC semifinals after a 5-0 win over the University of Southwest at the Swamp on Saturday afternoon.  Adam Gonzales and Abdoul Karim Pare each collected a pair of goals in the win.  The two had paired up just a week ago at the Swamp.  The match was intense as 10 yellow cards and 3 red cards were handed out.  

Right out of the gate, Southwest committed two fouls.  Liam Vivian and Hugo Juliao were both close on their shots.  Abdul Karim Pare struck in the 7th minute to score the first goal of the match.   Off of a penalty kick.  Scott Neil, Pare, Adam Gonzales, and Maurice Theart all took shots to double the lead.  The first yellow card appeared in the 28th minute as Martin Rassmussen was charged with it.  A minute later Gonzales scored with an assist by Theart and Juliao.   Southwest was charged with their first yellow card in the 30th minute.  Neil and Vivian continues to get shots as Southwest continued to collect fouls.   LSUS’s second yellow card came in the 35th minute to Gonzales.  A little over a minute later the referee pulled the second yellow card on the Mustangs.  Simone Libreri took a header got the required a save.  Liam Vivian netted his second goal of the season with an assist by James Averies.  LSUS carried a massive 3-0 lead into halftime. 

Southwest had more fouls than shots in the first half.  Southwest had 9 fouls and 8 shots.  LSUS took 13 shots in the first half.  

Southwest continued to accumulate yellow cards being charged with a third of the match in the 50th minute.  Gonzalez and Rassmussen took two more shots.  Pare received his second goal of the game in the 53rd minute.  Theart was credited with his second assist of the match.   Yellow Card No. 4 reared its ugly head for the Mustangs but this one cost them a penalty kick by Gonzales and he connected for his second goal of the match and a 5-0 lead.  Pare tried for a hat trick as Vivian tried to get his second goal.  Southwest tried to change their fortune with a group of subs.  Libreri and Gledi Doda made their appearance.  Southwest went to 10-men in the 73rd minute as Diego Vasquez was charged with a red card.   Libreri collected a yellow card for the Pilots.  Fresh leg came to the pitch from Cambell Young, Tom Cobham, Rhys McCallister, Matt Roberts, Hunter Hulin, and Alex Golder for the final 10 minutes.  Another yellow card for the Mustangs as the team was charged this time.  In the 88th minute, both teams were given a red card.  Simon Libreri was charged by the Pilots making the final two minutes being 10 on 9 in favor of the Pilots.  The Pilots held the clean sheet for the 5-0 win.

LSUS outshot Southwest 21-11 in the quarterfinal win.  Max Rose pulled off the clean sheet with 6 saves.   Abdul Karim Pare scored 2 goals on 5 shots.  Adam Gonzales also scored 2 goals on 4 shots.  Liam Vivian had a goal on 4 shots.  Maurice Theart only got one shot but helped with 2 assists.  Hugo Juliao also only got one shot but collected an assist.  James Averies also took an assist.  Martin Rassmussen, Simone Libreri, Julius Williams, and Alex Golder all took one shot. 

The Pilot will travel to Texas A&M – Texarkana on Thursday to take on the No. 1-seed Houston-Victoria.  Can the Pilots continue their streak to nine matches without a loss?  They’ll find out at 5:30 on Thursday.
