The quest for another state championship came up short on Friday afternoon at Messmer Stadium with a 2-1 loss to the Baton Rouge-based No. 4 Episcopal Lady Knights.

Episcopal Lady Knights took the first goal of the match and held on to the lead until halftime.

Allye Brucia evened the score in the second half and defense prevailed for the remainder of the regulation.

The Lady Knights struck in overtime to punch their ticket to Hammond and end the four state championship streak of the Lady Flyers.

“I’m so proud of my girls for fighting through all the adversity we experienced this season,” said Loyola head coach Mark Matlock.  “Our seniors have been state champions, two-time state finalists, and state semi-finalists in their four years.   They have continued the tradition of excellence at Loyola and I have no doubt we will be back next season fighting to bring another state championship to North LA.”

The Lady Flyers end their successful season as district champions and do continue their streak of five consecutive semifinal appearances.  Loyola ends their season with a 17-6-4 record.
