The Loyola Lady Flyers (17-5-4) advanced to the semifinals with a 2-0 win over the No. 8 Louise McGehee Lady Hawks (11-7-1) at Messmer Stadium on Tuesday night.   The Lady Flyers received a clean sheet from Millicent Mascagni.  Goals were scored by Ainsley Matlock and Allye Brucia.

“This has been a difficult season in terms of injuries and I am so proud of how each player has stepped up and contributed to our success,” said Lady Flyers head coach Mark Matlock.  “Players have played different positions and in a number of different systems while we have been finding what works.  We are ready to take that next step and return to our 5th consecutive State Championship!”

The win will send the Lady Flyers to their fifth consecutive semi-finals appearance and possible fifth straight state championship.  The defending state champs will face No. 4 Episcopal on Friday afternoon at 4:30 at Messmer Field.   Episcopal (16-2-1) has not allowed a goal in the playoffs this season.  They have outscored their opponent 19-0 in the past three rounds.   The Baton Rouge-based Lady Knights have only allowed 12 goals all season.  The semifinal appearance for Episcopal is the first since 2020.

A win by the Lady Flyers and they will be headed to Hammond at Southeastern Louisiana’s Strawberry Field to defend their state championship.  The other side of the bracket features Cinderella No.23 Northlake Christian Lady Wolverines (10-6-3) and No. 6 Isidore Newman Green Wave (18-4-6).
