Loyola Flyers Golf Wins Regional Championship; Nine Local Schools Sending Golfer To State Tournament - Under The Radar - NW Louisiana

The LHSAA regional golf tournaments were held around North Louisiana the past week.   The Division III Region I boys tournament was held at Stonebridge in Bossier City.  The Division IV Region I boys tournament was in Alexandria at Links On The Bayou.    The girls’ Division II Region I tournament was also in Alexandria at Oak Wings. 

The Loyola Flyer boys’ golf team captured the Division III District I title scoring a commanding 293.  The closest competitor was runner-up Notre Dame with 355.   The Flyer boys’ golf also boasted the top five regional scores.  Jack Gilmer was the top golfer with a 72.  Charlie Bell was one stroke behind at 73.  Charles Valiulis and Connor Cassano each scored 74.  Ross Alford finished with a 75.  

Calvary finished third in the Division III Region I tournament with 389 points.  Ezra Smith was the top Cavalier finishing with an 86.  Hunter Harris scored 94.  Noah Wassom scored a 99.  Tripp Jones and  Lake Nance will join the Cavaliers at the State Tournament. 

Individual golfers that qualified for the state tournament were Lakeside’s Travis Randle with a top ten performance of 85 and Jonesboro-Hodges Ajay Tew qualified with a 102. 

Quitman boys finished second in the Division IV Region I tournament with 355.  The Wolverine golf team finished behind Ouachita Christian with 307.  The top Wolverine top golfer was Eli Walker who scored 76 and was third in the tournament.  Noah Leach also had a top-ten performance scoring 82 and was seventh overall.  Pete Simonelli scored an 88. Cam Deal and Ian Talley also qualified for state with the Wolverine team. 

Cedar Creek finished fourth in the regional competition and qualified for the state tournament.  Regional runner-up Jed Stephens scored 73 and was the lead Cougar. Other qualifiers for Cedar Creeks were Triston Floyd, Alex Roebuck, Gray Worthey, and Parker Bush.  

St. Mary’s Tiger boys golf team had two qualify as individuals.  Mixon Bankston scored 87 and Peter Kautz finished with an 88.   Weston’s Tayt Culpepper had a top-ten performance with a ninth place overall with an 83. 

The Loyola Lady Flyers also made some noise as they were regional runner-ups and both golfers finished in the top ten.  Top Lady Flyer golfer April Williams scored 100 and was third overall in the tournament.  Kathryn Jackson scored 114 and was ninth overall.  

Many Lady Tigers also qualified for the state tournament.   Leading Lady Tiger golfer Emma Penfield scored a 110 and was seventh overall.  Madison Holcomb’s 119 landed her tenth overall in the regional tourney.  Abby Wilson will join her fellow Tigers at the state tournament. 

The Ochsner’s LHSAA State Girls Golf Championship for Division II will be held at Le Vieux Chene Golf Course on  May 1 and 2.   The Ochsner’s LHSAA State Boys Golf Championship for Division III will be held at Cane Row Golf Course in New Iberia on May 1 and 2.   The Ochsner’s LHSAA State Boys Golf Championship for Division IV will be held at Bayou Bend Golf Course in Crowley on May 1 and 2.
