Locals Compete At Ochsner LHSAA Cross Country Meet - Under The Radar - NW Louisiana

The Ochsner LHSAA State Cross Country Meet was held in Natchitoches at Northwestern State University on Monday.  

Four individual runners’ medals were handed out for top 10 finishes.   Medals are handed out to runners who finish in the top ten of their race.  Three of the runners medaled last year.

Jackson Burney of Calvary Baptist was the highest-place runner and is the state runner-up in the Division IV boys race.  Burney finished the 5K race in 15:43.9.  The Cavalier runner finished 3.4 seconds behind Talan Sievers of Lafayette Christian.  Burney finished 6th last year and second time he had medaled. 

Franklin “Tripp” Roemer finished in third for the Loyola Flyers in 15:58.4 in the Division III boys race.  Roemer finished in the top five for the second consecutive year.  Roemer was state runner-up last season.  

Kaylie Ann Shirley of Castor is the only female among local schools to medal.  Shirley finished 10th in the Division V race in 21:24.3.   The Lady Tiger finished 9th last season.  

Cedar Creek’s Myles Carpenter Head finished in 10th place overall in the Division IV race in 16:50.9.  Carpenter-Head is getting his first individual medal.  The Cougar runner finished 13th last season

Division III

Along with Roemer, the Loyola Flyers boy team finished ninth overall.  Mark Henry had a top 25 finish at 23rd place.  Landon Hooper, Carter Ward, and Mathis Stansberry rounded the scoring for the Flyers.

The Loyola Lady Flyers finished in 16th place for the Division III race.  Emily Anderson was the top Lady Flyer racing to a 13th place in 20:17.2.  Other scorers for thr Lady Flyers were Kathryn Elberson, Teresa Fields, Isabella Cascio, and Sophia Boggs.

Division IV

Cedar Creek boys was the highest placed boys teams among local schools with a 5th place in the Division IV teams competition.  Besides Carpenter-Head top 10 finish, Ethan McCarthy and Joshua Mcaacrthy finished in the top 50 at 37th and 43rd, respectively.  Other scorers for the Cougars are Anderson Maxwell and Connor Johnson.

Cedar Creek girls completed the Division IV race in 9th for the teams competition.  The top Lady Cougar was Kendall Ramsey who raced to 30th place overall.  Taylor Ramsey was just three places behind in 33rd.  Madison Morris had a top 50 finish at 43rd.  Other scorers for Cedar Creek were Marley Jinks and Audrey Baron.

Converse Wildcats Lady Wildcats finished 12th in the teams competition in Division IV.  Abigail Bozeman was the top Lady Wildcat in 12th place in 20:12.1.  Zoey Raborn race ended in a top 40 finish at 34th.  Preslye Rivers, Irene Dobbs, and Piper Cacace rounded out the scoring for Converse.

Converse boys completed the Division IV IN 14th place.  Auldyn Sepulvado was top Converse runner finishing in 67th.  Other scoring Wildcat runners were Jacob Fager, Andre Richardson, Clayton Rivers and Chezny Reed. 

Quitman Lady Wolverines had a 17th place finish in the team competition.  Morgan Cheatwood was the top Quitman runner in 60th.  Other scoring runners for Quitman were Megan Kelley, Lindsey Woods, Lainee Cheatwood, and Lana Hatfield.

Quitman boys team finished in 22nd on the teams in Division IV.  Gage Horton was the top runner for the Wolverines in 66th.  Other scoring runners were Braden Smith, Jayden Harts, Sean Henry, and Nathan Harvey. 

Choudrant boys finished in 17th place in the teams competition in Division IV.  Hagen Davis was the top Aggie runner in 53rd.  Other scoring Choudrant runners were Garrett Spearman, Collin Rozelle, Ren Stephens, and Connor Thompson. 

Kamdyn Rhodes was the sole runner for Choudrant Division IV girls race and finished 77th.

Lakeside boys team completed the team competition in 21st.  Scoring runners for the Warriors were Brandon Bell, Gavin Woodall, Mason Liles, and Luke Mandino

The Lady Warriors were represented by Madison McGraw. 

Ringgold returned after a year’s absence with seventh grader Ariel Gant who finished in 99th in the Division IV race.

Division V

Glenbrook Lady Apaches finished fourth in the Division V team standings.  The top runner for Glenbrook was Mattison Fowler who finished in 25th.  The remaining runners scoring for the Lady Apaches finished with six spots of each other.  Vivian Still finished in 35th.  Hadley Haynes, Emma Garner, and Emerson McLelland crossed the finish line together in 41st, 42nd, and 43rd, respectively.  

Glenbrook boys race team finished 14th.  Eight grader Carson Powell gave a glimpse of the future with 12th place finish in 17:52.7.  Trent Clemmons finished in the top 50 at 47th place.  Antonio Flynn, Nick Killgore, and Brody Walker were other Apache scorers.

Castor Tigers had a top 10 finish at 8th place in the teams competition.  Hayden Carmouche was the top runner for the Tigers in 29th place.  Other scorers for Castor were Dakota Royer, Landon Cross, Benjamin Warren, and Seth Pickett

The Lady Tigers also had a top 10 finish in 10th place.  Besides Shirley’s top 10 finish, Jenna Braggs had a top 50 finish with 50th place.  Other scorers for the Lady Tigers were Kimberlyn Short, and Elizabeth Harvey. 

The Florien Lady Blackcats had a top 10 finish in 9th place for teams.  Lily Sparks led Florien runners in 20th place in 22:35.1.  Other scorers for the Blackcats were Faithlyn Bragg, Kate Ellzy, Allie Tarver, and Caylee Downs.

The Florien boys squad finished in 17th place.  Top runner for Florien was Drake Harshberger.  Other scoring runners for Florien was Jared Martinez, Kennon Richwine, Jason Niette, and Grayson Chance.

Negreet Lady Indians finished in 8th in the teams competition.  Region 1 champ Ava Brown had a top 25 finish at 22nd place.  Other scorers for the Lady Indians were Allie Payne, Emma Wilkerson, Alyssa Rhodes and Alanna Hebert.

Calvin Lady Cougars finished in 13th place.  The top runner for Calvin was Dederia Means with a top 50 finish in 38th place. Other scoring runners for Lady Cougars were Dedriana Means, Kylie Blundell, Kylie Dupree, and Giana Conzonere.

Calvin Cougars had one runner with Aden Coleman finishing in 74th.

The Doyline Panthers had not sent a runner to the state meet since 2011.  Zach Moreno gave a representative and finished in 81st:
