The Lincoln Prep boys and girls took key district road wins Friday night at Haynesville.   Also, District 1-B finished the first half of district play late this week and Doyline boys and girls sit atop the district standings at 3-0.

Lincoln Prep Lady Panthers took a surprising 47-42 win over the young Haynesville Lady Tors.  The win pushes the Homer Lady Pels closer to catching a district title moving a full game ahead of Haynesville.   The win opened the opportunity for Lincoln Prep to get in the chase with a 2-1 district record.  The Lady Panthers were led by Tiyan Heard who scored 22 points and 9 steals.  For Haynesville, Marissa Tell is just six points shy of 2000 career points for the Lady Tors as she dropped a double-double with 22 points, 12 rebounds, 6 blocks, and 5 assists.  Little sister Layla Tell almost caught her big sister on rebounds as she captured 11 rebounds.  Jameaka Hicks scored 5 and snagged 8 rebounds.

The Lincoln Prep Panthers knew their game plan from the beginning as they double-teamed and sometimes triple-teamed Marissa Tell.  A three by Auniyah Rhone followed by a couple of baskets from Heard and ended by Hampton had the Lady Panthers on a 10-0 run.   Lincoln Prep had taken a commanding 16-5 lead after the first quarter.  Marissa Tell changed her tactic and realized that when she closed some of the gap.  Her tactic was to drive and draw the foul.  Tell went 8 for 10 from the line scoring only one field goal in the second quarter.  But it had worked as the Lady Tors cut the lead to 22-19 at halftime.  Haynesville used Lincoln Prep’s idea as they double-teamed Heard and kept her from getting the ball.  The tactic worked as Hicks free-throw followed by Khalia Washington basket had Haynesville tied at 22 with six minutes remaining in the third.  Heard broke free and scored but the other Lincoln Prep shooter started to score. Rhone popped a three was the start of a 14-0 run.  Lincoln Prep had opened the lead back to 38-24 heading into the final quarter.  Haynesville would not go away quietly as a three by Za’Niyah Kingsby started a 10-2 run by The Lady Tors.  Haynesville had to get their points from the charity stripe as they shot 9 for 13 with Marissa Tell scoring 7 of them.  Frustrated by constant foul calls, a Lincoln Prep player drew a technical.  With 43 seconds remaining Haynesville was only down 46-40.  A basket by Layla Tell closed the gap to four.  With 18 seconds left, Marissa Tell had fouled out and the Lady Panthers held on for the win.

Lincoln Prep boys moved to 1-1 in the district after their win over Haynesville on Friday night.  Leading for the Panthers were Stephen Burks with 9 points.  Brayln Mayfield had 8 points with 9 rebounds.  Emmanuel Bryant also had 8 points with 7 rebounds.   Haynesville Zykerius Fielding led the Golden Tornado with 9 points.  D’Marrion Welch scored 7 points with 6 rebounds.  Jamarquise Hampton grabbed 6 rebounds.  Damarion Payton 5 rebounds.   Neither team could generate much offense in the first quarter as Lincoln Prep took a slight 7-2 lead.  Haynesville struggled to find the basket in the second as Lincoln Prep opened an 11-0 run.   Mayfield scored four in the run.  Haynesville scored their first basket with 53 seconds remaining in the second quarter as Buffet hit a three.  Another three by Webb for Haynesville closed the lead to 20-8.   Lots of movement in the third by Haynesville but not many points.  The Panthers took a 29-13 lead in the final quarter as the benches finished out the quarters as Fielding grabbed eight in the final quarter.

Homer Lady Pelican moved a win closer to a district title with a 46-37 win over Arcadia.  Justice Young once again led the Lady Pels with 18 points. Jer’Niyah Curry netted 15.   Arcadia was led by Jay Haulcy with 14.   Demetria McCune added 11 for the Lady Hornets.

The first half of the District 1-B district season is over and Doyline is atop for the boys and girls with 3-0 records.   Doyline Lady Panthers finished the first-half sweep with a 58-33 win over Dodson.  Doyline Panthers took an 81-46.  Jamaria “Juicy” Clark had another 30+ performance with 37 points, 10 rebounds, and 6 assists.  Jamari Markray netted 29 points, 12 rebounds, and 5 steals.  For the Dodson Panthers, Xadien Hall led with 14 points.  Beau Canter shot 7 for 9 from the free-throw line to score 11.

Castor Lady Tigers stayed within a game of Doyline on Friday night with a 59-41 win over Saline.  Kalena Smith hit a massive 28 points for the Lady Tigers.  Emma Guice scored 11.

Also keeping pace with Doyline in the standings is the Saline Bobcats who won 81-54 against Castor.   Titus Malone led the Bobcats with 17 points.  Titus Jackson popped 14.  Ethan Roberts added 12 for Saline.  Trent Ledbetter finished with 11.  On the Castor side of the book, Cade Young led the Tigers with 16.  Jamarrion Clark scored 12 of his 14 points in the second half.

Significant matchups next week to determine the girl’s district titles with a trip to Castor for Doyline and Lincoln Prep meets Homer.  Also on the boys’ side, Arcadia will play catch up with three district games in their four-game week.  Calvary boys could inch closer to a title with a win over Lincoln Prepon Tuesday night.  Doyline boys could wrap up a fourth consecutive district title on Friday.
