The first step to the state powerlifting meet in Lafayette on March 22 & 23 starts on Saturday, February 18 around the state as the Girls Regional Meet will start.  The North regional schools will compete at Ruston High School and the Central regional will be Tioga for the girls.  The boys’ regional will be on February 25 at Calvary Baptist for the North regional and Grant High School for the Central regional. 

The season has been at full throttle since December.  Here is a recap for some of the recent meets:

Tioga Invtational (12/17)

Cedar Creek girls powerlifting kicked off the season with the girls only Tioga Invitational.  The Lady Cougars competed against Grant, Buckeye, West Monroe, Tioga, North Desoto, Ruston, Pineville, Natchitoches-Central, Leesville, and Jena.  Cedar Creek placed 10 on the podium.  Ashlyn Bourn took the top prize in the 181 class.  Bourn lifted the most weight of any Lady Cougar lifting 875 lbs (325-squat, 210-bench, 350-deadlift).  Ainsley Riley took the 148 class with 825 lbs.  Cedar Creek took the top two places in two weight classes.  Madelyn Carroll won the 123 class and Emma Moore took runner-up.  Lauren Enterkin was top in the 165 class and Olivia Salter finished second.  Alli Claire Johnson was second in the 97 weight class.  Paisly Hamby was third in 114 class.  

Dr. Billy Jack Tuttle Hall of Fame Memorial (1/7)

The Cedar Creek boys had their chance in West Monroe.  Senior Lane Thomas was the top finisher with a second place in the 165 class lifting 1095 lbs (420-S, 275-B, 400-D).  Quincy Jones lifted the most weight for a Cougar with 1250 lbs (435-S, 315-B, 500-D) and finished third in the 198 class.  Blake Wade took third in the 123 class.  

Ouachita Lions Invitational (1/21)

Quitman Wolverine Guin Sebastian received second place in the 242 weight class.  Sebastian lifted 1030 lbs. (385-S, 215-B, 430-D).  

Chiefs Invitational (1/21)

Many and St. Mary’s was among ten competitors at the Chiefs Invitational at Natchitoches-Central.  

Many’s Chase Higginrotham won the 123 weight class by 5 lbs.  Higginrotham edged out Bryce Warthen from Buckeye lifting 845 lbs (330-S, 185-B, 330-D).  Demario Woods and Teremiah Williams finished 1-2 in the 114 class.  Colton Boswell and Dutch Kor finished second and third, respectively, in the 198 class.  Boswell lifted 1235 lbs (455-S, 255-B, 525-D).  Kor lifted 1200 lbs as(445-S, 245-B, 510-D).  

St. Mary’s had two lifters medal at the meet.  Kolton Norsworthy finished second in the 242 class lifting 1245 lbs (455-S, 275-B, 515-D).  Drake Griffen took third in the 220 class.

North Desoto Invitational (1/28)

A hosts of local teams competed at North Desoto High School including Winnfield, Castor, Calvary, Haynesville and St. Mary’s both boys and girls.  

In the girl’s competition, Castor grabbed two first place medals.  Jaycee Freeman won the 97 class lifting 225lbs (70-S, 50-B, 105-D).  Stormy Watson took home the SHW class lifting 760lbs (285-S, 165-B, 310-D). Haynesville Lady Tors took two third place finishes.  Senior Zaelaysis Johnson lifted 695lbs (210-S, 135-B, 295-D) to finish thirs in the 165 class.  Fellow teammate Kaely Jackson grabbed third in the 123 weight class.  Calvary only sent one competitor and freshman Parker Jones finished in third in the 105 class lifting 380 lbs

On the boys side, Winnfield took four medals home.  Alex Adams took the 181 title by lifting 1455 lbs (510-S, 380-B, 565-D).  Waylon Givens won the 165 class with 1130 lbs (405-S, 255-B, 470-D).  Clayton Chandler finished in second in the 198 class.  Kaleb Womack grabbed third in the 275 class.   St. Mary’s Mason Mathis won the 220 class with his 1175 lbs lift (440-S, 260-B, 475-D).  Kolton Norsworthy finished second in the 242 class.  Dalton Waters and Chance Rushing grabbed bronze in the 148 and 165 weight classes, respectively.  Calvary Cavaliers took three medals back to Shreveport.  Senior Jordan Byrd won the 242 class by massively lifting 1550 lbs (605-S, 405-B, 540-D).  Byrd lifted the most of any lifter including in each individual type of lift.  Freshman Evan Curry won the 114 class with 790lbs (305-S, 170-B, 315-D).  

Port Allen High School Invitational (1/28)

The Cedar Creek girls powerlifting team headed toward the Baton Rouge area and dominated with 10 medals including 5 first place finishes.  Two tied for the most weight lifted by the Lady Cougars.  Ashlyn Bourn won the 181 weight class and Lauren Enterkin won the 165 class.  Both lifted 900 lbs to win their class.  Olivia Salter finished third in the 165 class lifting 840lbs. (320-S, 185-B, 335-D).  Other winning their class were Peyton Muse in the 132 class with 785 lbs (285-S, 170-B, 330-D), Madelyn Carroll in the 123 class with 765 lbs (290-S, 145-B, 330-D), and Alli Claire Johnson in the 97 class with 535 lbs (210-S, 100-B, 225-D).  Emma Moore gave the Lady Cougars a 1-2 punch as she finished second in the 123 class behind Carroll.  Ainsley Riley finished as runner-up in the 148 class.  Freshman Kate Harris and sophomore Paisly Hamby each grabbed third place finishes in the 198 and 114 classes, respectively.

D’Arbonne Woods Invitational (2/4)

Cedar Creek boys powerlifting has a big day in Farmerville capturing four first place medals.  Quincy Jones had the top deadlift across all weight class lifting 565.  Jones took the title for the 198 class lifting 1400 lbs. which also included a 495 squat and 340 bench.  Lawson Lillo won the 148 class with 1320 lbs (500-S, 365-B, 455-D).  Senior Parker Newman finished third in the 148 class behind Lillo.  Cedar Creek finished 1-2 in the 165 class as Lane Thomas won with 1255 lbs (500-S, 315-B, 440-D) and Austin Webb finished second with 1180 lbs (445-S, 300-B, 435-D).  Owen Robinson captured the 181 title.  Blake Wade and Landon Amidon finished as runner-ups in the 123 and 220 weight classes

ASH Invitational (2/4)

Kolton Norsworthy dominated the 242 weight class in Alexandria winning by 170 lbs with his lifting of 1335lbs total (505-S, 300-B, 530-D).
