The Providence Classical Academy Knights clinched their first district title in the program’s history.  PCA won their final home 51-36 over Claiborne Academy Rebels on Tuesday night.  The Knights clinched the district on Thursday night with a 53-51 win at Glenbrook.

PCA KNIGHTS 51, CLAIBORNE ACADEMY REBELS 36

Charlie Bradshaw got hot behind the 3-point arc scoring four to finish with 14.  Paxton Lovell also scored 14.  Cole Thornton netted 9.

Cason Hollenshead was the top scorer for the Rebels scoring 14.

PCA took an early 12-10 first quarter despite the Rebel’s Patrick Garrett six points.

The Knights opened a 3-point barrage with four.  PCA was fueled with three 3’s from Bradshaw and another from Jace DeLoach.  Bradshaw finished with 11 for the quarter.   PCA took a 29-17 lead into halftime.

Claiborne Academy struggled in the third to score as they managed only two 3-pointers.  The Knights outscored CA 14-6 in the third and took a 20 point lead.

Cason Hollenshead tried to bring the Rebels back with a 10 point fourth quarter but too little too late as the Knight took the district win.

“Every night someone different steps up,“ said Coach Trey Pittman.  “Last week, Paxton had 31 and then we went to UCA and Cole hits six huge threes. Last night Charlie Bradshaw made four threes and made them extend their defense and Daniel West took three charges. If we want to play deep into February we will need production like that from everybody.”

PCA KNIGHTS 53, GLENBROOK APACHES 51

Whoever said the PCA Knights were not going to have to fight to win a district title was strongly mistaken.   The Knights had to fend off a second-half resurgence by Glenbrook to clinch the district title.

Charlie Bradshaw had another strong game with 14 points.  Paxton Lovell added 11.   Grant Gordon and Bowman Lovell each contributed 8.

Peyton Wells buried five 3-pointers to lead the Apaches with 19 points.  Rhett Johnson added 11 points.

A 10-point first quarter by Bradshaw saw the Knights fire out of the gate quickly and jump to a 19-7 first quarter.

Two threes by Wells and another by Collin Greg tried to close the gap for the Apaches, but a counter two threes by Grant Gordon kept PCA with a 32-20 halftime lead.

Two more 3-pointers by Wells for a total of eight points by Wells brought the Apaches back to within 4 heading into the final quarter.

Bradshaw had scored four in the final quarter but fouled out.  Wells popped his fifth 3-pointer and Johnson added another to keep the Apaches close, but not close enough as the Knights got the clinching win.

The Knight finished the district with a 5-1 record and win a point differential over Union Christian to take the district.  The Knights will now head into the MAIS playoffs as the Class 2A District 5 No. 1 seed.  The Knights will receive a bye in the first round at the South State 2A Playoffs at Sylvia-Bay Academy in Bay Springs, Mississippi on February 10 or 11.  They will play the winner of the District 3 No. 4 team and District 4 No. 4 team.
