If you happen to come across this post, you’ve found my new website “Under the Radar – NW LA”. This website is dedicated mainly to covering those schools in northwest Louisiana that fall under LHSAA classification of Class A, B, and C. But also along the way, you might see some post of some teams or sports that you might now get to see in the local sports section. Why are you doing this and who are you by the way.

Lets’s start with the who. I am Shawn White (not the snowboarder) and these size schools are close to my heart. I have been a scripter for the Shreveport Times for the past four years and love every minute of it. They have put a passion in me to tell the story of these young athletes. I’ve also done some work for The Advocate in New Orleans and Livingston Parish News. I’ve written over 200 articles to my credit at this time. I’ve had the opportunity to cover high school football, wrestling, baseball, softball, soccer. I’ve also covered the NAHL Shreveport Mudbugs, NPSL Shreveport Rafters, WPSL Shreveport Lady Rafters, and GCPL Boca FC Knights. Although the talented writing staff at the Shreveport Times has seen this for years, this year’s NFL draft I got to watch it from a whole new perspective as three players that I covered got drafted. If you ask them personally, I probably hound them more than I should in asking to write. I love it. I’ve also done some work for The Advocate in New Orleans and Livingston Parish News. I’ve written over 200 articles to my credit at this time.

The next question of why I would do this. I said earlier these size schools are close to my heart. I graduated from Doyline High School in 1990 and still love to go see the Panthers show out on occasion. Ever since I can remember, basketball is king on Tuesday and Fridays. Extra treats were when a tournament was close, and you got the occasional Wednesday or Saturday game. I want to tell their stories. I want to get their name out in the world a little bit more. Who’s to know what diamond we may get to see come out of a small town. Look at who just got into the Baseball Hall of Fame, Lee Smith, who is from Castor.

Now you might look at this and say I’m trying to compete with the people that I love to work with. That’s not the case at all, they are the professional journalists who do a fantastic job of telling stories throughout the Shreveport-Bossier area. I am a computer analyst who gets the opportunity to share in telling stories with them. There are a whole lot of stories to tell and just want to share a few more when I get the chance.

Hopefully, when school kicks off in a few weeks, there will be more stories to post and you will get to see. I’ll share the stories on my social media pages so we can see and share yourself. Hope to see you back here soon.
