The Glenbrook Lady Apaches claimed the Region 1 Division V regional title last Thursday (November 3) at Lincoln Parish Park in Ruston.    The Lady Apaches edged out Negreet Lady Indians by two points with 46 points.   Glenbrook placed three runners in the top 10 from a freshman and two junior high runners.   Freshman Mattison Fowler was the top Lady Apache finishing in 5th place with a time of 22:54.14.   Eighth grader Laura Kilgore finished in 7th place in 23:31.25.   Seventh-grader Emerson McLelland claimed a 9th place finish completing the race in 24:14.02.  Hadley Haynes and Peyton Malone gave the Lady Apaches points with top 20 finishes in 16th place and 20th place, respectively.   Sophe Downer and Hannah Day competed for the Lady Apaches

The Negreet Lady Indian came in second place with 48 points and also had three top 10 finishers in the regional race.   Ava Brown finished 4th overall in 22:34.34.   Senior Skylar Boatman gained an 8th place finish in 23:45.88.   Alyssa Rhodes rounded out the top 10 finishers in 10th place in 24:27.16.    Emma Wilkerson was not far behind in 12th place.   Allie Payne had a top 25 finish in 24th place.  OTher runners for Negreet were Allie Payne and Mattilyn Lehr.  

Castor Lady Tigers qualified for the state meet with a fourth place finish in the teams competition.   Kailey Ann Shirley took a bronze back to her hometown with a time of 22:20.99.   Fellow sophomore Jenna Braggs completed the regional race in 15th place.  Autumn Watson and Anna Jones completed in the top 30 for the Lady Tigers.    Elizabeth Harvey rounded out the scoring for Castor.  Other runners for Castor were Hayleigh Johnson and Avery Jordan.  

Calvin will head to Natchitoches next week with a sixth place team finish for the Lady Cougars.  Garazi Fernandez was the top Lady Cougar in 21st place.   Hallie Roton, Kyleigh Blundell, Kylie Dupree, and Rebekah Dupree all scored for Calvin.

Florien Lady Black Cats finished seventh.  The Lady Black Cats had two top 30 finishers in Gracie Rutherford (23rd) and Caylee Downs (28th).   Other scorers for Florien were Adyson Hall, Layla Fletcher, and Cora Downs.  

St. Mary’s only had three runners, but all three qualified for the state meet.   Anna Peluso finished in 11th place in 24:31.41.   Sara Rodrigue also qualified for a 14th place finish.   Sophia Hogg will be heading to Natchitoches with a 17th place finish. 

Simpson boys won the regional competition in Division V and claimed the top regional runner with Ean Allain in 17:58.27.   

Castor Tigers boys cross country will also be competing in the LHSAA State Cross Country meet with a 5th place team finish.  Gage Jordan finished in the top 10 in 8th place in 19:14.12.  Brenden Cox and Hayden Carmouche were back-to-back in 21st and 22nd, respectively.   Seth Pickett was just 10 seconds behind in 24th place.  Benjamin Warren was the last scorer for Castor.  Other runners for Castor was Talyn Layfield and Cole Martin. 

Florein boys also finished seventh place.  The youngest racer on the Black Cats team, Drake Hershberger, finished in 12th place in 19:34.04.  Other scorers for the Black Cats were Jaylon Stewart, Josef Rodriguez, Rankin Alford, and Jared Martinez.

Glenbrook boys cross country will be headed to NSU for the state championship race.   Seventh-grader Carson Powell was the fastest Apache runner with a 16th place in 20:03.22.  Nick Gilgore, Turner, McLelland, Brody Walker, and Mason Goodman all scored for Glenbrook.    Reed Blake and Hunter Day also competed for the Apaches. 

Negreet sent three runners to Ruston for the regional race.  Ace Bowling qualified for the state meet with his 21st place.  

The Ochsner LHSAA Cross Country State Meet will be held in Natchitoches at Northwestern State University.   Division V girls will race at 1:30 pm.  Division V boys will start their race at 3:00 pm.
