Four local teams advanced to their respective semifinals and qualified for a trip to Sulphur to compete in the LHSAA Baseball Tournament which will be held May 9-13.

The Logansport Tigers were the first to punch their ticket to Sulphur on Wednesday afternoon with a 9-6 win over No. 7 Delcambre.  The Tigers had to come back three times to overcome the pesky Panthers.  Delcambre took the early 1-0 lead in the top half of the first inning.  Logansport answered with a 2-run bottom half.  Delcambre added runs in the second and third inning to take the 4-2 lead.  The Tigers scored 4 in the bottom of the fourth to take the lead in the game at 6-4.  Delcambre chipped away at the Tigers’ lead with runs in the fifth and sixth to eventually tie at 6-6.  Logansport had enough and put in three runs in the bottom of the sixth to secure their trip to Sulphur.  Hayden Rolfe went 1 for 2 including a double and 3 RBIs.  Tyler Binning batted 2 for 3.  Jace Thompson went 1 for 3 with 2 RBIs and picked up the win pitching.  The Tigers will have back-to-back years that have made it to Sulphur.  The No. 2 Tigers will face No. 3 DeQuincy on Tuesday at 5 pm. 

Glenbrook qualified with a 5-0 win over No. 11 seed Riverside Academy in the Division IV Select playoffs on Thursday afternoon.   Maddox Mandino had a stellar game going 3 for 4 with two doubles and 3 RBIs.  Landry Powell also smacked the ball going 2 for 3 with a double, triple, and 2 RBIs.  Hayden Harmon showed the offense and the defense for the Apaches as he hit 2 for 3 with a double along with pitching a complete game with 11 strikeouts.  This is Glenbrook’s first year in the LHSAA playoffs as they will face the No 2 seed Ascension Catholic Bulldogs in Sulphur on Tuesday at 2 pm.  

Defending state champ Choudrant will return to Sulphur for the third consecutive time.  Choudrant knocked out No. 8 Hicks 2-1.  The defense was the name of the game until the fourth inning where Hicks crossed the plate first.  Coffman singled to the shortstop.  Doyle moved the runner to Coffman to second on a sacrificial bunt.  Edward’s single to right field gave Hicks the first run of the game.  Hicks led 1-0.  In the fifth inning, Bryce McGuire started on base with a walk.  Gavin Murphy popped a single to left field sending McGuire to second.  Kaden Bradshaw was hit by a pitch to load the bases.  Michael Jones popped a single back to the pitcher scoring McGuire to tie the game.  Choudrant had tied the game at 1-1 after five innings.  Choudrant escaped a sixth-inning surge.  Bottom of the seventh both teams still knotted at 1-1.  Bryce McGuire gets walked to start the Aggies at bat.  Gavin Murphy makes a sacrifice bunt down the third base line but advances McGuire to second.  Kaden Bradshaw is intentionally walked setting up a force play at third.  Michael  Jones hits to the pitcher but an error allows on base and scores McGuire to walk off and a trip to Sulphur for the Aggies.   Gavin Murphy went 2 for 3 fir Choudrant.   Landon Hennen and McGuire combined for an 11 strikeout game.  

Unfortunately, two local teams had to decide who will be heading Sulphur in the Division V Nonselect.  No. 7 Weston Wolves had to travel to No, 2 Converse.  Weston took the early 1-0 lead in the top half of the first as Bryce Zehr knocks in Sawyer Watkins gets the early lead.  Converse caught up in the bottom of the fourth.  Hungerford starts with a walk.  Logan Carter gets walked advancinf Hungerford to second.  Candyn Craig hots a fly ball to right fueld that drops for a single sending Hungerford scores on the throw to third.  C Durr pops a double to left field scoring two.  Converse had taken a 3-1 lead.  Weston clawed back into the match the top of thw sixth inning.  T Henderson starts the inning on base from a walk.  Cole Tolar knocks a single to right field as Henderson headed to third.  With runners on first and third, Converse committed an error that lets Henderson reach third.  Drew Browning hits a line drive to right fielder and scores Williams while Delaney sits on the third.  Weston had tied the game after 6 innings at 3-3.  Extra innings ensued and Weston starts the top of the 8th.  Drew Browning reach on error and stretched it to thord base.  A walk by Blaine Graham out runners on the corner.  A bunt back to the pitcher by T Henderson scoring Browining and Graham pushed to third.  J Gill hits a fly ball to center as Graham tags up to give Weston the 5-3.  Bottom half of the eighth looked a little scary as Hungerford started with a double.  Mitchell is walked and runners are at first and second.  With two outs, Mitchell is walked.  A strikeout would end the season for Converse and send the Weston Wolves to Sulphur. 

The LHSAA State Tournament starts on Tuesday afternoon.
